I really like it - nice and interesting. If I had to criticise it, I'd say it doesn't shout cricket at me - other than that, I'd say validation is your last task on this site.

i have been thinking the same over the last few days myself.

 

the idea behind the paper on the desk feel was the captain sitting at home with his bits and bobs on the desk picking his team (team sheet)

 

i may play with the header and stick men cricket players, how else would you emphesise the cricekt feel?

I like and it says cricket for me, says rather than shouts which I prefer.

 

Not sure about the title/header font above paragraphs on home page.

 

Perhaps try styling the link colours and lose the text underline?

I don't know whether it needs more *cricket* or not to be honest.

 

Something to play with that might fit into the current scheme/colour/realism of the site would be to take a really high quality photo of a cricket ball and place it somewhere along the left edge towards the top so it looks like there is a cricket ball on the desk? Not so that all of it is showing, if it was in scale there is only room for a little bit of it. Just enough to see the red colour and seams and to create an extra *hint*. Not sure if it would fit with the current perspective though.

it is still really a work in progress by the looks i had thought maybe i would get away with as it is but your commetns have made me more determined to make this better.

 

the lack of cricket feel is bothering me now i think i shall try the cricket ball ont he desk you mentioned (nothing speaks cricket more than a cricket ball!)

 

the links will be styled i must have been lazy to think they would look ok on the site, also i did try using comic sans as the font for the site to keep with the hand written feel but was told it was spoiling the feel what would you suggest?

My only suggestions are to use a more "hand written" font for the text in the header, and to space the text so it fits perfectly in the page rules.

 

Don't use comic sans, whatever you do!

Looks really nice- my only problem with it is how long it takes to load. Not sure how much you've compressed the image files- maybe making it a more fixed layout and avoiding using the PNGs? That second photo on the right also adds a horizontal scrollbar to the page on my resolution (1024x768), might be a good idea to move or resize that.

haha, i like these desk / office looking websites because it just makes it more professional looking. The way you have introduced the cricket photos on the page is good because it allows the theme of the site not to drift and it makes the look of the site relevant.

I really like this for its ingenuity. I personally think you could get over the cricket theme thingi by putting in a cricket ball at the right top hand edge of the page. This will just do the job while still presenting something a little unique!

 

Very well done on your design skills.

 

Have you thought about how it would look just keeping the torn paper header banner but using a more conventional 'rounded' content box below? I think that would work better, and be even more effective. (sort of less is more...)

 

Anyway. Well done again.

 

ps. How much would you charge roughly for a design like that? (don't expect specific - just very roughly...)

nice site, nice layout - although I'd look into optimising the graphics, it's slightly heavy on loading - each element pops in. Two other small niggles that might be worth looking into - it might be worth removing the link outlines on your nav menu items. The other thing, and this might just be personal taste, but I'd assign an overflow:scroll which would prevent the page jumping when a scroll bar is added to accomodate more content - by forcing one to appear regardless of content size. Other than that, nice style, it's great that you've made such an informal and loose looking site, but with plenty of structure underneath it's casual veneer. Good effort!
