I thought facebook had stopped the suggest to friends feature. How have they done this?

Well I reckon I was a good 30-40% lower than I would have liked to have been. But the project is interesting and the clients that the site will attract could/would/should lead to further web work for me. So I was keen to go tight and possibly even just cover costs to a certain extend. 80 hrs for Magento or 80hrs inclusive of design? I quoted 75hrs done.

Ive quoted a customer this week who came back saying that our price was "without hesitation CONSIDERABLY outside of their expected budget, by a long way". I'd quoted a fair bit under £2k for a Magento store, blog, dozen or so info pages, heavy design twitter and facebook integration, online book and availability for courses (extra from the shop) a good chunk of work. I went in pretty tight on the price as I quite fancied the job. But crikey. Sounds like he wanted it for £20 from that response. Really seen my arse with it Oh and I had another today contact me through facebook, saying they want a site, was fairly simple, a day's work possibly two and before I'd had a chance to even send my quote I got a message saying by the way I aint paying more than £100 for it! FML

I really think you should learn some design and start from the beginning. I don't wish to be insulting but there is no way you can charge for that.

Become aggressive when said professionals don't like the 45,587 'awesome' work for free idea they have heard hat day. and to answer your question, web development agencies is a large term. Some agencies do branding, some do not, they may be more programming side. Browser development may be undertaken by some but it isn't something you'll find many doing. I worry for your job if this id how you recruit business partners.

I've never used any products in my portfolio before, I normally just have screen shots, but I was reading an interview with a fairly prominent designer who mentioned that they began to receive a lot of enquiries about iPhone app development due to an iPhone on their front page. I'm a total Apple fanboy. I don't try and hide that, I'm just attempting a different tactic.

We do do iOS development. We have a magazine app that should launch about the same time we launch the refreshed site, for Young Sikhs. I only am debating using this for the contact page to make it a little fun and memorable. And no, I work solely with Apples products for my work, I can't think of a finer way to display them, I know it isn't original and there's probably 500 other designers doing the same, but this is me.

Yeh I made my template for the homepage 1200 x 1200, now realising, probably 1000 is only gonna be needed. Really debating what to do for some of the other pages. I half think it'd be good to add a few 'different' elements in there that would make it memorable. eg - contact page, I am thinking of having just an iPad. With this on the screen http://css-tricks.com/examples/SlideToUnlock/ and once it unlocks, having apps represent what the user wants to do, Mail app for mailing us, phone app to call, twitter, facebook etc - but the other half of me thinks its naff.

I quite like it to be sparse, minimalist, if I could. Once I upload work onto there I really want it to be showcasing that, not my own site, as that is the sole purpose of it. Social Icons I didn't make, I got them from here - http://forrst.com/posts/Social_Icons_2-IID - though I may create some pink ones to tie in with my site, probably not boxed, just a small icon. Footer is way down, I can probably take 200px off the bottom and move that up. As for floating, not sure on that, all elements are aligned to a grid, some quite roughly, it must be said. I might add the lower section of the site in a contrasting grey. That could bring that together maybe. Blog does look squished. Thats one thing I am not happy with. Not 100% on what I wanna do there...... Logo will be coming off - wait til you see how the portfolio page looks there's a few to remove on that! I need to update my portfolio and I am adding a couple of homepage features I don't currently have on there. Would appreciate any comments and suggestions. PS this is my no means finished, I haven't checked spacing on icons etc yet, I'm just getting concepts. I'm not really at all happy with the social icons layout etc....

What do you think? I left all contact info bar my mobile as the rest is available on the website and I will be handing these out face to face, so I can explain to the technophobes what the big squirly mess is, and those who are a bit more savvy might like it. Thoughts?
