  1. @ webdesigner93 - Thank you for your insights... This again really helps... Wow - just like front end I can imagine, you can never stop learning!! Can you (or anyone) give me a ballpark/rough estimate on the amount of time/work/cost on a project mentioned in my original post? Also, do you know of a good tool / mac app / or a way to communicate with developers that would ease their workflow? Thanks guys...
  2. Hi Rallport. Apologies for the delay in my response, I have been away. Wow - Thanks for your insights they are greatly appreciated...there is some truly helpful advice here. If I may ask a few more questions, delve a bit deeper...? How does one guage a developers skill - I mean as a designer I just look at at a portfolio of work and I can pretty much guage how good they are in a heartbeat. It seems so much harder to do with developers! - Should they be pointing me to sites / apps etc (that have the sort of functionality that I am after) in their portfolios?? What should I be looking to pay per hour for a guy of this calibre? Are developers interested in collaborations with good designers to achieve something like letterboxd as a personal project/achievement that can be added to CV's etc - or is it all about cash Do you know of any good developers that can handle a challenge like this? Can you recommend some cutting edge guys that you believe would do a good job? Is it something you would like to have a crack at? :-) If not, do you know a good place to post a job like this (I know of quite a few places, but thought you may have a better insight). And finally, roughly (I know they are ongoing projects) to get to a beta stage - estimate of cost? Thank you so much for your time once again in advance. Dave.
  3. Hi All. I am a pro web designer with an idea that will require the services of a fantastic, cutting edge developer. Problem is I am not that used to working with developers, so I need your advice... Rather than beat around the bush, I am looking for someone who can work with me (as the front end designer) on a project similar to this... http://letterboxd.com/ Nice site huh! - So I have a few questions... Can anybody tell how scary / advanced / big job this is for a programmer / developer All the movie info here (including the images etc) is being pulled via API's - is working / using API's to this level a very hard thing to do etc? Also as you can see there is all sorts of other social based stuff going on and other clever bits and bobs etc etc - would the developer need a broad range of skillsets? Any help on this, so that I may have some basic understanding (before I look to posting a job) on this would be of great help guys. Thanks so much for your time in advance.... Dave.
  4. Hi All... I wonder if you could help... The following script works (sends an email) with certain emails, but not with others? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated :-) $to_email = stripslashes($_POST['send_to_mail']); $to_mail_subject ="I want to know more about better logistics"; if($_POST['action']=='send'){ $email = stripslashes($_POST['email_address']); $message = "here is my email... ".$email; $headers = 'From: '.$to_email . "\r\n".'Reply-to: '.$to_email."\r\n".'X-Mailer: PHP/'. phpversion(); if(mail($to_email,$to_mail_subject,$message,$headers)==true){ echo"success"; }else{ echo"Unable to submit your request at this time! Please try again later"; } } Thanks for your time in advance... Dave.
  5. Ok, seemed to have fixed it now... Cleared my browser cache - seems to have done the trick
  6. Me again... Ok, we have switched ip addresses etc and the domain now points at the new host and email seems to be unaffected (well haven't heard to the contrary form my client yet anyhow Something a little strange is happening now thought that you maybe able to shed some light on? Even though every thing has swithced (now running a WordPress installation on new host) there seems to be some lingering filename from the old host??? Take a look at the long greyed out filename after the URL... http://cl.ly/image/3E0N0M0N3C1G I cannot even understand this as it is a brand new hosting account etc and the 'home.html' file does not exist? BTW - all WP settings are correct and do not contain any of the info in that very long (and silly) filename!!! Can you help? Is it something to do with propagation or something? Thanks so much....
  7. Thanks again for your help, it is greatly appreciated - urrrggghhh I hate email!!!
  8. Hi again.... Hmmmm.... Now the client is asking if this will affect his webmail? I am guessing it will, if we change every instance of the existing ip? Can the webmail still be handled by the existing server and the site hosted seperately? If yes, do we change every instance of the old ip except for the webmail record (see original image)? Thanks for your continuing help on this...
  9. Hi MH-Nick. Thank you for your help - mucho appreciated
  10. Hi Guys... Got a couple of dns questions, as I do not want to mess this up, so... Please have a look at these dns dettings... http://cl.ly/image/3u470i16063T How do I point the domain at a new host, but without changing any mail settings (or any other settings for that matter!)? Normaly I would simply switch the nameservers (ns1.hostmonster - ns2.hostmonster etc etc)? Sorry for my noobness... Thanks for all your help in advance... Dave.
  11. Hi all. I have recently switched to mac form PC as my primary computer and have successfully settled in. The only issue I have is that the archive of lovely fonts I have collected over the years are all for the PC I have trawled the web looking for options - I see there are converters etc, but not sure how successful they are... I have downloaded a '10,000' fonts for mac pack, which is ok I guess, but most of them are very old and I simply do not have time to sort through these as I would imagine it would take me as long as collecting my favorites on the PC!!! Even with the use of font suitcase and like, it is way too many - 200 - 500 max would more usable. So my question is does anyone know of an archive / download specificly for designers, like the 'top 100 designers fonts' but in a downloadable zip archive (as I have already gone through the chore of doing this one by one!). Any pointers / advice would be helpful... Thanks Guys...
  12. You are quite right! Going to 'bollock' the IT guy (he messed around with all the records) - you guys have been great and very welcoming...
  13. Yes, I think I need to update the links within WP itself, but cannot even log in to WP at the mo. I have used the velvet blue plugin before, to update links after a domain transfer... Nightmare. Ps - I have my options set at - 'You are currently receiving email notification of replies' but I am not receiving any emails when you guys post replies? Getting PM's and service ones...?
  14. Thank you so much - this is really helpful - just brilliant.
  15. Hi. Wow really appreciate your help on this... This forum is great - I have learned more in the past hour than I have the past 3 days with the "support guys' If I shoot you the logins via a PM could you sort this for me? I will definitely 'buy you a beer' (or 4)
  16. Hi thanks for your response... Trouble is, the support guys done it all, so I am a little in the dark as to what happened really... Can you see/ give me pointers, as to where the problem my lie? Thanks...
  17. Hi Guys. Not sure if this is the right forum / sub section to come for your this issue / advice but... I am having mucho problems after a domain transfer and I really need some help here!!... THE INFO... Basically, I have built a website (using wordpress) on the URL stylo-graphics.co.uk - this URL was the primary URL for the hosting account. Also on the account was a parked domain stylographics.co.uk Around 2/3 Days ago, I wished to move the site to the parked domain’s URL and I did this with the help of one of the host company's support guys... The account was renamed and the parked domain thus became the primary URL and the old primary became the parked one. (still keeping up ) FYI - Both URLs were located on the same server, so no files were transferred only the database was updated... THE PROBLEM... at the time of writing this I am seeing the site (and WP for that matter) as if no stylesheet is present - here is a screen shot... http://cl.ly/173h1w2E2E0r2j3Q2j1f All caches in my browser are cleared (in fact I have checked this in all the 4 main browser - all caches / cookies etc cleared). It is also worth noting that I cannot access WP either... Take a look for yourselves... http://www.stylographics.co.uk/ Can you please help me to understand what might be happening here? This site is for a large client and their site has been looking like this for far too long now. Any / all help or advise will be greatly appreciated. Thankyou... Dave.
