itodd got a reaction from Lovelock in Set navigation tab as selected on page load.If I understand you correctly, and you just simply want to set the 'active' tab. Just modify your code slightly to the following:
#tabs a#current { background-image:url(http://subtlepatterns.com/patterns/concrete_wall.png); color: #fff; }
<ul id="tabs"> <li><a href="index.php" title="tab1">Online Store</a></li> <li><a href="#" title="tab2" id="current">About</a></li> <li><a href="#" title="tab3">FAQ's</a></li> </ul>
So whichever tab link has the id "current" they will be displayed as 'active'

itodd got a reaction from David Cook in Banner not full lengthYou are missing a closing </div> for the <div class="ContentArea"> after <!--#Header -->, hence the footer is inside this div which has a width of 960px, rather than 100% of the screen width.
Add </div> on line 111, before </div><!--.ContentArea --> that should solve the issue

itodd reacted to empek in Menu & Logo css code HelpYou can use position: relative; on the banner, and have position: absolute; top: -40px; left: -40px; on the logo.

itodd reacted to empek in Holding page?HAH! I was going to link to the exact same thing earlier, but wasn't sure that's what he meant. +1
There should be a couple of free ones floating around, but they might be called "coming soon pages". Try giving that term a google and see what you find.

itodd reacted to Samus in format a particular <p>tag from same classJust give the third <p> tag an ID.
<div class="para"> <p>this is a paragraph</p> <p>this is a paragraph</p> <p id='formatp'>this is a paragraph</p> <p>this is a paragraph</p> </div>
and format as you would in css
#formatp { color: red; }
or something.
Note if it's just one specific <p> tag you want to format, then use IDs. Else use classes.

itodd got a reaction from web-itec in data protection?You can find all information regarding the DPA at http://www.ico.gov.uk/for_organisations/data_protection.aspx
In short, any data protection/processing must follow the 8 main principles:
1.Personal data shall be processed fairly and lawfully and, in particular, shall not be processed unless –
a ) at least one of the conditions in Schedule 2 is met, and
b ) in the case of sensitive personal data, at least one of the conditions in Schedule 3 is also met.
2. Personal data shall be obtained only for one or more specified and lawful purposes, and shall not be further processed in any manner incompatible with that purpose or those purposes.
3. Personal data shall be adequate, relevant and not excessive in relation to the purpose or purposes for which they are processed.
4. Personal data shall be accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date.
5. Personal data processed for any purpose or purposes shall not be kept for longer than is necessary for that purpose or those purposes.
6. Personal data shall be processed in accordance with the rights of data subjects under this Act.
7. Appropriate technical and organisational measures shall be taken against unauthorised or unlawful processing of personal data and against accidental loss or destruction of, or damage to, personal data.
8. Personal data shall not be transferred to a country or territory outside the European Economic Area unless that country or territory ensures an adequate level of protection for the rights and freedoms of data subjects in relation to the processing of personal data.
Point 7. is relevant to this point. You would encrypt the data to ensure it is not stolen or destroyed. You can do this by using a number of methods, eg SSL certificates.
Point 3. You cannot store any personal data that is irrelevant to the purpose for which is to be processed. So all personal data you store, such as phone numbers and addresses, must have a purpose otherwise can be deemed irrelevant and not in accordance with the DPA

itodd got a reaction from web-itec in data protection?No worries, but please don't take my advice as a given! As I said, all the information you need can be found on the ICO website.
See this webpage HERE
"The Data Protection Act does not define the security measures you should have in place." There is nothing in the DPA saying you have to have an SSL. It just states that you use appropriate security measures for the size of your organisation and the type of data processed. It is the data processor (you) who is responsible for the data security.
It's always a good idea to make use of salt or md5 but they can still be hacked, as can any other password. There are other ways to gain access to a site than just sql injection, so you must have a way of responding to a breach of security (view this page)
-
itodd got a reaction from web-itec in data protection?I'm no expert in website security, but this article provides a good start to understanding some of the main hacking ideas. A SSL certificate would be used to stop data being intercepted when being transferred over the internet, rather than protect directly against hacking.
Following the DPA isn't exactly hard or scary, it's just a matter of following set guidelines and procedures designed to keep personal information safe and to give legal rights to the people who have data stored about them.

itodd got a reaction from joe2011uk in Amazing Host Now Amazing Web DesignIt's an alright start, however I think that there's a few small changes you could do to improve this design.
Firstly, as stated before, change the main text font. The font makes it look unprofessional, maybe try a sans serif such as Arial or Trebuchet MS. Why is the search bar overhanging? It seems kinda out of place as there is plenty of empty space in the header to position it and no other part of the site is like this.
The logo isn't great, the font is pretty dull and the grey kinda makes it gets lost in the blue background.
The whole site seems too blue, maybe try using some light greys and some of the colours from the logo to add some colour to the site.
In the footer you have 2 of the columns (left and right) left aligned while the middle column is center aligned, to me this doesn't look right and it should also be center aligned.

itodd got a reaction from Beno in Wordpress Them ProblemsWhen you say you are having trouble moving posts into the center of the page do you mean the padding on the left of the post is too big? if so you have it set to 68px (#content in style.css)
on the second page you might want to remove this bit of code:
#main .post { margin-left: 100px; }
and remove the margin-top and margin-left from this part of the code
#main .entry { clear: both; padding: 10px 5px; width: 618px; margin-top: -80px; margin-left: -60px; font-family: Georgia, serif; }

itodd got a reaction from Beno in Wordpress Them ProblemsI posted how to fix this above
