  1. Seems okay to me visually, although the box below is obviously slightly wider than the slideshow but that might be intentional. FYI you are also using an xhtml transitional doctype which is probably unnecessary, if you don't have a specific reason to use xhtml (or don't know the difference) then you're probably better sticking with an standard html 4 doctype (ideally strict).
  2. The rotator needs to have padding:0 to make it align left properly. Not sure what you mean by forcing itself aligned left with the text but if you want the 3 artist columns spaced correctly using your method use a width of 33% (which is basically a third) rather than 23% as you have it now (which is just less than a 1/4). There are many ways to do a 3 column grid, it honestly is a good idea to read up on css layouts, floats and clears as until you understand the logic behind them all then it will continue to be extremely difficult to get anything working as you want it.
  3. Just do what i said in my last post and it will work. Or given the changes you've made since, centre the rotator using the same methodology as the other divs and remove the padding from the contained ul.
  4. You can't just get rid of the clearfix (well you don't have to do it like that but you have to clear the floats in one way or other). If you specify the height of your rotator div then this will cause the artists box to go below but you will have additional padding on the left of your rotator. So add padding:0 to your ul list within rotator and it should all work.....
  5. Just have 3 divs, one with nav, one with rotator and one with artists ordered in the way you want them to display and make sure you clear the floats between each one so that it's bumped down to the next line. As i said in my previous post you should read up on how to properly clear floats and the effect it has on layouts, once you understand this you'll be able to do it properly.
  6. If you want to get some responses you'll have to give more information than that and are probably better putting it in the Looking to Hire forum (assuming you actually have money to spend on the project). Good luck!
  7. You now have your rotator div between your nav and your artists div, hence why it's displaying directly underneath the nav, that is your immediate problem. In terms of the general overlapping issues you should read up on how to properly clear divs and maintain the correct layout, you can find huge amounts of info on this in Google (eg http://www.danstorm.com/dan-storm-article-css-5.html).
  8. You have your rotator div within your artists div which is why it's now displaying directly under the artists list (rather than under the box)....
  9. It really depends on how different you want the layout/site to be. If the site is identical with different styling then you can just detect the device/browser and then serve up a different css file. If you want a completely different site for (eg) ipad vs normal browsers then you obviously have to serve up a completely different page as the contents are different.
  10. There seems to be something wrong with your rotation script, it doesn't fade in and out at the same position, it is displaying them as a vertical list of images and fading out one and then showing the next underneath it (rather than in the same location). You are best to get the rotation script working properly first then you can sort out the positioning. In terms of it being below the text you need a clearfix within the bottom of the text container to ensure the container div is the same height as it's contents, then the div below this will be displayed in the correct place.
  11. Just include a loop through the returned database rows within the actual js function (i haven't tested the following code and it's not semantically the best way to write it but you should see what i mean, you also should stop it writing the final || on the last iteration of the loop which i haven't done): function check() { code = document.form.input.value; if ( <?php $query = "SELECT TABLE.Postcode FROM TABLE"; $result = mysql_query($query); $total = mysql_num_rows($result); $i=1; while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC)) { $postcode=$row['Postcode']; echo 'code == "'.$postcode.'" || '; } ?> ) { window.location = "yes.php" } else { window.location = "no.php" } }
  12. Hi Drennan, You can just use php to create your javascript function on the fly using the data in your database. So within your javascript check function do a db lookup for all available postcodes then loop through the database and echo the following for each entry: code == POSTCODEFROMDB || This will result in the same javascript function but without having to manually type in the postcodes (and will obviously lookup whatever postcodes are currently in your db). Cheers, I hope that's helpful! Dave
  13. I second (or third!) having one sheet, as renaissance said it will cache the file anyway so you'll only have to download it once. The only time I would have multiple sheets is if you have a huge site with a multitude of different sections that are styled differently (in which case you can break it into separate ones).
  14. Hey smortimer, I tend to use http://jquery.malsup.com/cycle/ for simple slideshows, it does require jquery but is incredibly simple to use and allows you to use a variety of different functionality and personalise a number of factors. Cheers! Dave
  15. Hey everyone, When we're building sites and the client wants the copyright we normally just assign them a worldwide license to use the site in whatever way they want with specified rights to change it in anyway they want in the future (with full copyright of any designs transferred to them obviously). We retain copyright so as to ensure we own and can reuse the source code as there are obviously many bits of this that are reused across different sites (eg form submission code, api calls, paypal/google checkout scripts, even base layouts excluding styling and designs etc). I have a client that wants full copyright of everything assigned to them with no reuse rights for me. If I do this then I won't legally be able to use the code snippets in other sites, even ones that were written previous to this project by me. I can't work out how to deal with this so they're happy (they're just trying to protect themselves and are obviously paranoid which is fair enough but I'm not trying to copy anything they're doing, just need to ensure I don't end up illegally using my own code or prevent myself using common features/functionality on other sites i build!) I'd be very interested to hear how you all deal with this, I suggested assigning copyright to them and giving me reuse rights of the code but they weren't happy with this. Thanks very much everyone, i'd really appreciate your thoughts. Dave
