drop down menu help
Maybe it is but I don't know what you mean. I have tried altering the margin for the ul ul but to no avail. I'm sure it is to do with the fact the elements are positioned absolutely but I don't really understand what the problem is. It doesn't even work in ie6 anyway so I will probably give up soon. If anyone could shed some light I would be eternally grateful

drop down menu help
Hi. I am trying to implement a drop down menu using css that displays a horizontal sub-level of links directly beneath the parent links. I am almost there but for some reason I cannot get the sub links to appear centered directly under the top links. I have a link here: http://www.samdelara.co.uk/infected/index2.html If anyone can help or if anyone has seen a similar menu on a site somewhere it would be great if they could send me a link... Sam

lightbox issue
Hi. Can anyone help with an issue I have with the JavaScript lightbox? I am trying to get the next and previous buttons to appear but for some reason cannot get this to work. I have of course included the images in my directory and referenced them up accordingly in my lightbox.css so I really don't know what is wrong. I have copied my lightbox.css below and the website is here: http://www.angelapuddleduck.com Thanks, Sam. #lightbox{ position: absolute; left: 0; width: 100%; z-index: 100; text-align: center; line-height: 0; } #lightbox a img{ border: none; } #outerImageContainer{ position: relative; background-color: #fff; width: 250px; height: 250px; margin: 0 auto; } #imageContainer{ padding: 10px; } #loading{ position: absolute; top: 40%; left: 0%; height: 25%; width: 100%; text-align: center; line-height: 0; } #hoverNav{ position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; height: 100%; width: 100%; z-index: 10; } #imageContainer>#hoverNav{ left: 0;} #hoverNav a{ outline: none;border:none;} #prevLink, #nextLink{ width: 49%; height: 100%; background: transparent url(/images/blank.gif) no-repeat; /* Trick IE into showing hover */ display: block; } #prevLink { left: 0; float: left;} #nextLink { right: 0; float: right;} #prevLink:hover, #prevLink:visited:hover { background: url(images/prevlabel.gif) left 15% no-repeat; border:none;} #nextLink:hover, #nextLink:visited:hover { background: url(images/nextlabel.gif) right 15% no-repeat; border:none; } #imageDataContainer{ font: 10px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; background-color: #fff; margin: 0 auto; line-height: 1.4em; overflow: auto; width: 100% } #imageData{ padding:0 10px; color: #666; } #imageData #imageDetails{ width: 70%; float: left; text-align: left; } #imageData #caption{ font-weight: bold; } #imageData #numberDisplay{ display: block; clear: left; padding-bottom: 1.0em; } #imageData #bottomNavClose{ width: 66px; float: right; padding-bottom: 0.7em; border:none;} #overlay{ position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; z-index: 90; width: 100%; height: 500px; background-color: #000; }

firefox issue
Hi. Can anyone shed some light on an issue I have with firefox? I am trying to place a text area field in an existing div and there are no problems in ie 6 & 7 but firefox and opera both display the text area with about 20 pixels of space above. Why is this? I have specified no margins or padding for the containing div. The code can be viewed through this url: http://samdelara.co.uk/ecoswitch/index.html Sam

drop shadows on web pages
Hi. Can anyone offer any good resources for learning how to put drop shadows on the borders of a web page? I presume it is done by repeating an image in the CSS somehow? Sam

Opinions
Hi there. All of the above and get rid of that hit counter at the bottom - they look amateur. Best to use Google Analytics to do all the tracking of your site traffic. It's excellent and it's free! http://www.google.com/analytics/indexu.html Good luck. I'm sure with some practice you will start learning the stuff you need to know... Sam

Thanks for the reply 'Mihai Georgescu'. For reference, I removed the overflow:hidden declaration from the ie6 stylesheet and changed the margins. This fixed the issue. Sam

Hi Tehi. Thanks for this. I've only just started using this reflection technique and I'm a Photoshop beginner so it would be interesting to know how you did this. Did you just lower the opacity of the reflection layer?!! Sam

Hi 'wizely'. Thanks for your kind comments! I take your point about SEO although I did think there was enough relevant text on the homepage, please tell me how I can optimize my content!! I have linked the 2 validation icons to the actual validation results and I did think about making the header text all HTML but it just didn't look as smooth when hard-coded Hope you can help sometime with my content. Cheers. Sam

portfolio site
I have a portfolio site that has been live for a year or so now and I have recently redesigned it: http://www.samdelara.co.uk I was just wondering what everyone thought of it? It's a really basic site, using 2 floated columns in CSS but all the code validates and the site handles text-size increase pretty well. It would also be good to know what I can do to increase SEO as I currently rank 3rd page in Google for a search on 'freelance web designer norwich' which is not bad but not brilliant Any constructive criticism is welcome..... Javascript Form Validation
Hi guys. I have an issue with a contact form on my website: http://www.samdelara.co.uk/contact_me.html I am using some .ASP script that was supplied to me and I've included some JavaScript validation code that I found from a useful tutorial. The only problem is that when the JavaScript form validation is present it prevents my form from delivering the entered data to the relevant email address. The script works and sends the enquiry but it just sends an empty form. Can anyone offer any clues as to why this is?!! The sets of code are below:- HTML Form <form onSubmit="return checkForm();" method=post action="fh.asp"> <span class=label>Name:</span><br /><input type=text value="" id=name><br> <div class=error id=nameError>* Required: Please enter your name<br></div><br> <span class=label>Email:</span><br /><input type=text value="" id=email><br> <div class=error id=emailError>* Required: Please enter your email address<br></div><br> <span class=label>Enquiry:</span><br /><textarea type=text value="" id=comment></textarea><br> <div class=error id=commentError>* Required: Please enter a comment<br></div><br> <input type=submit value=Submit style="margin-left:2px"> </form> ASP Script <% '----------------------------------------------- 'This script does not include anything to prevent 'spam and it does not check to see if required fields 'have been completed. Drop Down Menu Sticking In Ie7
Hey thanks for the replies. I posted a little hastily and have since found a fix. For anyone else having the same problem, if the drop down menu code followed by: http://www.htmldog.com/articles/suckerfish/dropdowns/ causes the menu to stick in ie7 then just insert the following code to your css: #menu li:hover, #menu li.hover {position: static;} Sam
