Rank Dropped 5+ pages overnight!
cheap website design replied to cheap website design's topic in SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) & Search EnginesWe get no backlinks at all from adwords, just good old fashioned link building, article writing, link baiting and basic SEO really. Of course out of thousands of links we will end up with some irrelevant linking, however we try to stick to the most search engine friendly techniques and it seems to work. I would like to reiterate though that ranking on page 1 for this term has taken years and considerable expense on a monthly basis. Cheap - we are cheap, are focus is small to medium sized businesses, we want to help people starting out or taking that next step to boost their website. 9 times out of 10 our quote comes in cheaper than other companies out there. I am always happy to offer any advice on SEO if anyone is interested, just PM me or start a topic, there are many SEO experts on here :-)

Rank Dropped 5+ pages overnight!
Hi everyone, so this morning was probably one of the most terrifying mornings of my life. For the last year our rank has steadily improved and over the last few months we have been 5th on page 1 of Google for the term "webiste design" and other related keywords. Each day I search my keywords to make sure all is well, this morning I searched and our website appeared to have dropped off of the face of the earth, I could not find it in any search results for our keywords with the exception of 1 where we are now on page 5! I have been searching for hours, researching and visiting forums to find out why this happened, I checked Google webmaster tools and everything appears to be fine, no drastic changes on our side and the I realised something. In the search results that we do appear under there is no cached button, leading me to beleive that all of a sudden Google does not have a cached version of our website? Does anyone know why or how this happens? if Google tried to cache my site and it was down or something would this be the issue? is it likely that once Google caches our site again we will return to the positions it took so long to reach? I am trying to establish how much I should worry, is this just a glitch and everything will be ok in a couple of weeks when cached again? I look forward to your replies

Web pros: How much do you charge?
cheap website design replied to DesignCommunication's topic in Freelancing, Business and Legal DiscussionI use Freshbooks for my invoicing FreshBooks It is an amazing web based invoicing system, I charge a monthly fee for hosting at £7.50 per month for shared, £50 for VPS and £150 for dedicated. The invoicing system has recurring profiles etc and automatically bills my clients. I dont want to plug Freshbooks too much but if you are starting out or even a small/medium business I could not operate without it!

What is the most you would pay for a domain?
Many years ago when we started our company the .com suffix had been registered, as our company grew recently we negotiated to purchase this .com and ended up paying several hundred pounds, not alot in the scheme of things from the giants that pay millions for a domain, but still a hell of a lot more than the usual £8 registration fee! anyway I was just curious if you have any similar experiences or have paid much more for a domain you desperately wanted?

Current state of the market?
I personally think that the recession is a great time for web design companies, we have never been busier. My thoughts around this are that companies do not have as much money to spend as previous years on things like publication advertisements, example above £1000 for 1 advert! Therefore companies are looking for new ways to generate business and they turn to the web, looking for an alternative solution to boost their business.

Web pros: How much do you charge?
cheap website design replied to DesignCommunication's topic in Freelancing, Business and Legal DiscussionI charge a one off payment, this is paid as 50% upfront and 50% on completion, hosting is an additional monthly charge. All websites come with a CMS providing the client access to update their own website, however if they require structural changes or updates then I would charge extra based on the extent of the work involved.

Which CMS and Is This Any Good?
I have used WordPress for a while now as a CMS for websites, I find that it is quick and easy to setup templates and to use WordPress as a CMS, personally I like the fact that there are many plugins out there that can help and assist with requirements, sometimes they need a little tweaking to provide exactely what I need but overall WordPress delivers on all the basic needs for a CMS and in my opinion is user friendly for most.

Hi, I like your new site, I would just recommend having some sort of animation on the homepage to offer more of a visually apepaling element to visitors, perhaps a Javascript accordian for the top features or some images on the page to break up the text?
