I've always found it easier to self-study , there are so many training videos out there, even youtube is great for photoshop tips and tutorials. Maybe start with dreamweaver for the coding? It's intuitive in the fact that it has two modes; code and design - so you can see what your elements look like in code-form. I guess it's like anything, you need to put the hours in. I have a 3 year old and one on the way so time is not something I have too much of either at the moment -but there's always a way.

joomla is lovely - i really get on with it. takes some time to get familiar but can be very powerful.

www.joomla.org is popular, free and very well supported. Might be a little excessive for some smaller sites though?

I work for the ambulance service - but I'd much rather give it up and design.

All I keep reading is customers unwilling to pay realistic rates 6 pages - surely worth around £400-£500 depending on the quality, and judging by the shots pretty good. I think selling web sites is much like selling paintings - at the end of the day it's all an art and is perceived in a personal way.

www.surpasshosting.com are excellent - they have mysql/php with their reseller packages at about £10 a month or shared at £6/month. I've never had a problem with them, just great service all round.
