I used to be able to run IE5 on my Mac but that is no longer a problem, I need the later updates and I can't seem to find an alternative to running separate windows machines at the moment, i need IE 6,7,8.

Expression Engine gets a lot of press on this site, but are commercial CMS the best way to go - think one team vs hundreds/thousands of teams working on modules and add ons as is the case with open source. I run Safari, Firefox and Opera on my Mac, IE 7 on a different machine and IE 6 on an old crappy laptop I bought on Ebay - IE7, not too bad and no-one here will be surprised to here that IE 6 represents the 20% that I spend 80% of my time debugging, the point is when will Microsoft finally accept the WWW Standards, create a new mac version of IE and allow me to ditch my ****ty windows pcs ?

I used to create simple custom CMSs, the function of the CMS aspect of the site was generally limited to customers being able to manage their content, rotate banners, recent news, url rewriting etc etc. The trouble is as soon as you encounter a customer with rapidly changing needs you kick your self for not using an off the shelf version with a component, or widget in the case of wordpress, for nearly every eventuality. I find the scope of joomla and the ease with which the administration aspect can be taught is fantastic, the support is second to none and if you are not a developer but have a client with a specific need (and cash) you can out-source to a plethora of freelancers.
