AJAX vs JQUERY
I know they both use javascript libraries but wasn't sure which provided the better sliding animation for a more smoother effect when the panel slides down. Ive used the collapsible panel in AJAX before but never used Jquery and just wondered which would be better. Thanks for your reply. Marc

AJAX vs JQUERY
Hello All, I am going to be redesigning my personal website and want to build in a contact form to slide down from the top of the page on the click of a button, I am going to be building my new website in vb.net within visual studio 2010. My question is, what technology would be best used for creating a sliding contact form would it be best using an AJAX collapsible panel or a jquery accordion? Any information would be great point to note is i'm using the .net 3.5 framework and with ajax built in wondered if this would be better? Marc

DRUPAL - Group Task list or Project Management module
Hello People, I have installed a local copy of Drupal 6.17 using xampp and set up the database in phpmyadmin. I am about to start developing a group collaboration CMS which basically allows members of staff to create a task and then assign that task to another member of staff and then allow comments to be posted on the task. I am fairly new to Drupal and have only ever used Drupal with Ubercart to develop a dummy e-commerce website. Please could anyone recommend any modules which are used with drupal 6.17 that will enable me to develop a task/job management website? Your information would be greatly appreciated for a Drupal newbie. Thanks Marc

ASP.NET Return value of records returned from database
Hello Guys, I'm struggling majorly here... In short I have developed an asp.net website, on the website is a text box which when text is typed into it and the search button is clicked, it displays the records which match the search criteriain a gridview. My problem is this:- Having got the records to show in a gridview, I want to be able to display the number of records which have been returned in a label. for example "6 records have been returned" - if 6 records are returned from the search criteria. I am not quite sure what the VB.net code would be to do such a thing, it has confused me greatly...my experience in vb isnt all that great. I have a text box named TitleSearch (the text is entered into here) , the search button is named ButtonSearch (this posts the website back and returns the records which matches the sql query) and the label is named LabelHeading (I want this to show the number of fields returned) The gridview which displays the fields is named GridView1. Any help on this Would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Marc

Portfolio Website
Hey thanks for the critique! Exactly what I was looking for. I'm not a graphic designer by any means, I only dabble around in illustrator or Photoshop as an hobby and don't proclaim to be an expert, far from it! Which for the purposes of my site is all that it requires. Like you say, the idea of a personal website being an extension to somebody is known, and it is recommended by many experts and many people do it, not just web developers/designers, for example: although I say I have experience in HTML/CSS in my CV, do I really? The website shows I have took care and pride in my work, shows an element of skill and includes previous work to look at. The website which is currently up, took me little over 2 hours to knock together so of course its far from complete. I just wanted to gain some initial feedback from people on how its looking compared to my previous one (see the attached images and how it might be improved further. I have took advice and changed it from being a portfolio to just a personal website, although it includes my work it’s not just a portfolio of work. With regards to my work, my web development work is only a small part of my course, I'm skilled in many areas and I’m only a novice in web development, my web design skills are not great! but as always it’s a work in progress and I’m still young! The wording in the website, I agree it’s very informal in parts and maybe also inappropriate, totally agree about the lame part, I would sound pretty lame saying that! Going to cut some info about myself out, as if they have already read my CV they will already know the stuff I have put in the website. Many thanks for the critique really helpful Marc

Portfolio Website
I do information systems... stuff like developing systems in java, web applications in asp.net. I do web development aswell (html, css, php, javascript)...i do nothing in the way of graphic design at all academically! With regards to actual web design, I mainy only code as opposed to laying them out with design intentions and choosing colors to set moods although its something i enjoy...

Portfolio Website
Hey thanks for the message. It is like an online CV at the moment, i don't have much in the way of work to put up, the intention of the website is to have the website as an extention of my CV. Potential emploeyrs can read my CV and then go on my website and learn more about me and check out work which I have undertaken. Thanks for the message regarding the logo, i was going to stick with the other one used in my previous website but I thought i'd go for a simple look, do you have any comments regarding the layout and structure, theres still a long way to go ive only been redesigning for the past few hours. Website Feedback would be helpful Tips/Ideas
Hey there, Some very good points!! it's still early days for me as ive only been learning and building my site for the past 5 weeks or so.... Still got a long way to go before I get to a decent level! I agree it is very formal, which defeats the heading! I'll take your tips on board and change that because I totally agree....the style sheets comment you made is also a very good one its bad practice, but because the style sheets are very small anwyay and the site is fairly simple and small in size I dont think load times will be greatly affected but I am going to make it into just one style sheet. Finallly, the site is far from complete, I'm not really intending the website to be seen by employers until after I have finished university which is about a year and a half away... so got alot of time to get some more learning done and work on this site and make it into a finished product. Thanks very much for the comments though I've taken them on board! Marc

Website Feedback would be helpful Tips/Ideas
@ JAMES Hey thanks for the reply, it is lacking colour somewhat, I reakon the general impression is to add a little colour even if subtle! with regards to the header I sort of like it but I am going to re -design the site entirely within the upcoming month of or so, so I will definatley be working on a cool header soon..... @ JAMES,zigpress & Mr Brightside PHP- Thanks for the tips I have a pretty good handle on html and css, my php knowledge is very limited only covered it briefly in uni but its something I'm definatley going to be learning next so will definatley look at your recommendations! Thanks for the comments!

What do you think to this simple skin?
I like your code!....the color its nice at the top but a lighter shade gradient of blue at the bottom would be much nicer its alittle dark I think...make it alittle more subtle. M

@Zigpress Hey, Thanks for taking alook, always good to get the feedback from people who have alot more experience than myself on various things. I do agree with the font I don't really like it, I did spend about an hour going through various fonts and couldn't find one I liked....The colour I know its abit bland it was sort of my intention it was the mood I was in for awhile but it definatley needs a change lol...the markup was what I wanted to work at its tableless and what html and css are there for lol! Much appreciated.....can you recommend any good php beginner level books? Marc

Hello People, I am new to this forum, I have been learning standard compliant xhtml and css for the past five weeks and would like some initial feedback on my portfolio website that i have been building. www.marcbinns.co.uk The above url is my website which is cross browser compatible in all of the major browsers including IE.6 and because its been coded fairly well i'd say its even viewable in IE5.5!! I have even scored top in the indexing for googles indexing for the 'marc binns' search . (Feel free to leave some feedback for me it would be much appreciated! any info on typography/design would be great!) MARC[/b]
