  1. I've recently been working with the marketing team at work and we've been processing hundreds of thousands of emails from excel files generated by our database. The staff here used excel to clean out duplicates, etc, then wanted them back into a neat CSV. So I wrote a little script for them... http://xls-to-csv.tomcash.co.uk/ Not only does this columns into CSV but it strips out bad email addresses too!! Feel free to have a play. I'm very open to all types of feedback on how to improve it, etc. So please, send over your feedback! Tom.
  2. Hey, no problem! Thanks for the +1!
  3. It's important you tell Google Webmaster tools which version of the website you wish to refer to. Then also build all your links to reflect that. As for one and one - there's an easy way around this. If your route directory for your website, where all of your files sit. Create or edit your .htaccess file to contain the following lines of code: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yoursite\.com [NC] RewriteRule (.*) http://www.yoursite.com/$1 [L,R=301] That will send anyone from the http://yoursite.com to www.yoursite.com Hope this helps!
  4. "HTML/CSS man" would be "the guy who designs in the browser". He would cut the PSD up into flat images, etc and map them to some CSS/HTML and do all the cross browser testing.
  5. It depends on the business. This isn't an uncommon layout in larger businesses: A designer will deliver the interfaces only in PSD format. A UI/UX developer will do the CSS, HTML, JavaScript and any client-side sort've interface programming. A developer will do all the server side functionality, such as the PHP/ASP, MySQL. A copywriter will do all the text and may work with an SEO. Bigger businesses sometimes have a person specifically dedicated to database design too. Smaller businesses sometimes have their designer do the PSD, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. It is also not uncommon for an SEO to write the copy. It really does depend... If you don't mind me asking - why do you ask? Perhaps we could answer your question more specifically if we knew.
  6. I can't see a problem there. Perhaps the problem is on the include php?
  7. TomCash replied to Gecko's topic in Server Side
    Do a CTRL and F (find) and find $webUrl and it's value. It may look like this: $webUrl = -INSERT-PHP-HERE;
  8. TomCash replied to Gecko's topic in Server Side
    Go to line 157 - identify what the code is looking for and A.) Put the object where it is supposed to be. or B.) Change where the code is looking.

    Now you do! You're very welcome.

    A quick and dirty solution: $number = rand(1,6); $value = ""; if($number == 1) $value = "one"; elseif($number == 2) $value = "two"; elseif($number == 3) $value = "three"; elseif($number == 4) $value = "four"; elseif($number == 5) $value = "great"; elseif($number == 6) $value = "six"; echo $value; Hope that helped!
  11. I use a drop down on one of my websites with Scribd. Works a treat: http://www.lektronix.net/media/repair_brochure/view/china
  12. It doesn't really matter - a lot of the top companies are a similar price. You just have to see how much you can haggle. http://tinyurl.com/6jevfnz
  13. Yeah - this is true. Some projects are so tedious, it's nice to have something to look forward to. You can ask for the money as a gift so you incur no charge. Just write a contract and reassure them that their money is okay, although they will not be backed up by PayPal. Saves you a couple of quid. Yeahhhh. Cheers! I give quite a few away too. I gave about 30 to my dad and apparently all his colleagues use them now. Had a couple of jobs via them too!
  14. Have you tried setting your navigation z-index to something like 400? z-index: 400; This usually helps overlapping issues. Your position class needs to be absoloute or relative, however: position: absoloute; Hope this helps buddy!
  15. +1 rep, because I don't think I could say it better myself. I find them massivley inspiring.
  16. - Thank you! I bank with Barclays, they're awesome. I heard Lloyds are good too.
  17. Everyone is different. It depends on you and the client. I work like this: Small projects of £500 or less - payment up front. Medium projects of £501 > £1500 - It's usually 50% up front, 25% after design and the final 25% upon completion. Larger projects of £1500 + - 30% up front, 30% after design and 40% upon completion. However, bear in mind that not all customers see your idea of small, medium and large as you do. Therefore, negotiations may need to be considered. I tend to negotiate if they seem trust worthy. I always ask for a BACs transfer. If they choose to pay by cheque or PayPal I charge them the interest rate provided by my bank. Proofs are delivered via email or DropBox. DropBox is fantastic for sending and receiving files seamlessly - also, if you get them to join via you – free space! Woop. I deliver the final work on a branded USB. ( )
  18. http://www.captcha.net/ Obviousllllllyyyy.
  19. Don't use WYSIWYG full stop. You'll become a better developer and designer if you understand the code you write fully.
  20. Notepadd ++ is awesome! Been using it a couple of years now. Could never use anything else now. Don't make websites in Dreamweaver, it's the devil.
  21. JavaScript. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Disable+Right+Click http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Disable+Select+All Your[/]i] browser may be Firefox but have you give any thought to what your target audience may use? Although the JS code for what you want should be cross browser compatible, coding for one browser is a massive no no... Just a warning. Furthermore, if people want to steal your content - a bit of JS won't stop them. It's really easy to get around those old tricks.
  22. Buy cheap, buy twice... You get what you pay for. You pay a premium for Adobe because it's quality. So many people use it that support for it is really strong. Say you do a Google for "something something tutorial", it's most likely going to be using an Adobe product. It's worth every penny in my opinion. If you're worried about breaking the bank, get an older version. I only update about every 2/3 years myself. You don't need to be super current. You'll get an older one on the bay of e for a nice price and I'm sure you wont be dissapointed.

    Being the massive internet geek that I am, I just purchased the personalised registration plate for my car that reads "FA11LLL". I want to use the tag line underneath to write something massivly funny to anyone who understands. I was thinking, something really silly - yet pre-watershed friendly. Some guys at work had the idea to just write: "Epic" "ROFL Harris" Anyone got any ideas? The more it makes you lol, the better.
  25. Change the image properties based on the DIV it is in. For example: <div id="pictures"> <img> <img> <img> <img> </div> Then in your CSS, write #pictures img { margin: 5px 0 0 0; }
