December 10, 20241 yr Hello All! I'm the owner of a web development company in the UK called Atom! I've recently redesigned our company website and was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to roast my company website and let me know things I could improve? Thank you so so much ❤️ Site Link: https://atomsites.co.uk/
December 11, 20241 yr Welcome, Jack! Plus points for having a Christmas hat on the Atom logo! I dare say it'll impress potential clients! Can't see any glaring errors other than the Atom logo not rendering on mobile. Screenshot attached (iPhone 12 mini using Safari)
December 11, 20241 yr Roasting begins.... Why the black background? Have you tested with a white background? It's not about your design tastes it about what the potential customer likes. "Leading Web Designers in Swindon". Says who? Where is the evidence? "We specialize in WordPress Web Development and Search Engine Optimisation for Swindon businesses". Well I live just outside Swindon so won't be bothering you with a call.... What does "Get Started" mean? What will happen if I click on the button? When I did click out of curiosity it just took me to your contact page. And because of the huuuuuge hero everything useful was below the fold. Where is your portfolio? Not going to talk to you unless I like what you do. Why do you look like a Miami drug dealer in your picture? Why does Shae look like a sixth former? Why all the animations? Why do you have hover effects that aren't clickable? Why if your are SEO specialists does your own site only score 66/100? (top tip: if you want a fast site don't use Elementor or Ionos) There is more but that will do for now.

A better roast than I'll be having on Christmas day 😂 Glad there aren't any photos of me online as I look like what you'd get if Uncle Fester and The Blob did the fusion dance from Dragonball Z!
December 11, 20241 yr Author Thank you so much! This is seriously useful stuff! So to summarise changes that we could make: -Fix the Logo in the top left for iPhone viewing on mobile - Overly ambitious quote on the above the fold | Homepage - Look to broaden niche in respect the site text - Look into changing "get started" to something more explanatory - Look to decrease size of the hero text on sub pages - Create a dedicated portfolio page to showcase work - Exit the drug dealing trade and give growth hormone to Shae - Either remove hover effects or make them clickable to not miss guide UX - Currently looking into better optimisation routes and have disabled the previous one we were using, Airlift, as it was causing some UI bugs. We will be looking to better design to core HTML & CSS and upgrade server infrastructure! Do you have any suggestions or recommendations in relation to education platforms that may help us close the knowledge gap quicker? I appreciate I'm asking a lot and am not giving much back so please let me know if you're looking for good contacts in the Miami area for various powders!
December 12, 20241 yr Re-think your whole approach. Don't try to target everyone in Swindon. Find a niche and properly exploit the opportunities. The website is far less important for local business than the GBP. Consider outreaching and knocking on doors. You can get a lot of business down the local pubs and cafes where tradies go. You are the least important part of the process. Potential customers want a website for their business. Or a refresh. Or an upgrade. Or maintenance. Or marketing. They don't want you in particular. This means making your homepage a billboard for your work. Show me thumbnails for each of those 50 clients. Link each one to a project page. Don't make me click to a contact page - put your details on every page. Look at this: https://tradesman-theme.co.uk/ Image those thumbnails are each of your projects. Look at the bottom of the page - see all the calls to action. Keep it simple - bin elementor and move to a decent host. As an aside, theme and plugin development is also a very lucrative source of income.
