August 1, 200818 yr Hi all, I'm wondering what peoples opinion is regarding writing styles used on freelance websites. I look at a lot of sites everyday and keep coming across freelancers who write about themselves in the 3rd person, "Bob Design is a young design graduate who...". It seems strange to me that even though the site is obviously ran as a freelancer they write their copy that way. When I do mine I don't think I'll use the 3rd person. If anything that style only serves to detach the reader and distances one of the main strengths of the freelancer - the personal, intimate, (one-one may be more appropriate ) relationship. Any comments?
August 1, 200818 yr I think it depends. If "Bob Design" was selling himself using his own name, I agree with you. It would be a bit strange to use the 3rd person. However if he was marketing himself as "Bobtaculous Design" or some other trading name, it seems to make more sense to use the third person rather than the first. I think its probably down to the individual freelancer, but I cant see why it would have too much impact on clients' likelihood of choosing/not choosing any particular one.
August 1, 200818 yr I like the first person. I come to your site to see you right about yourself. If it's in the 3rd person, has someone else written about you (if so - who are they?), or have you written about someone else (if so - who are they?).
