Please tell me what do you think about this front page design.

Hello,

Ipernity is a little photo sharing place/community,registered in europe/france.
It is ran by members association.
Before a few years it was almost closed but association was assembled and it still goes on.

Site in general is good, community is very vibrant, overall design is simple but very unique.
Only thing that bothers me is the front page design.
What do you think about it? Can you tell me what is good and what is bad? Is it good or bad?

thank you

My professional opinion is you don't need the homepage. It's an interstitial page that adds no value.

But if you really want to keep it, use a white background

How do you know people like the page? Have you split tested other options?

Thats right,it has to be white background but people there dont understand design, its not something to play with, its a serious ****,it can ruin good product and propel bad one.

Many people would come to frontpage and say wtf is this?

My friend recently went there and told me what is this? a blue void, empty, just no need for that, site in overall is very nice, simple, clean, lots of options but ****ing doors are so bad.

Majority of users are old people and it seems they dont get it or dont care,we were recently collecting money for reprogramming of whole site but we still need a lot,we are trying to market it online but still searching for ways to become visable.

I was hoping that flickr will crash and many people would come and problem would be solved for a decade, then there would be money to take some pro to fix this weirdness.

There was no test and i understand why,to many voices with their opinion, they are always asking for opinion of people and many times they listen but in this case,no,they dont see the need for change, sad.
