Forgive me if this is in the wrong section! 

I've designed my website in the past using coding, in Dreamweaver, though I don't know what if doing a lot of the time, Google has gotten me through! 

I added a blog to my photography business website, using WordPress, in the folder /blog/, and bought a template in both WordPress and html, so the user couldn't really tell which of the sites they were in. 

The time has come I thought, to move the whole website to WordPress, doing all the edits in the WordPress dashboard makes a lot more sense than some in Dreamweaver, plus all plugins etc would be better if they were the same site-wide. 

So I've remade my homepage, in the /blog/ folder. And in fact made the while site in there. 

I'm a bit scared if I'm honest about simply moving my whole site back from /blog/ to the root folder, as I'm sure tons of in-page links will stop working. Or perhaps the whole DB will disconnect. I've really got no clue. Anyone have any tips? Any plugin, apps or articles that will help me finding and updating loads of links? 

I tried adding a forward to my htaccess file moving visitors to the root into /blog/folder, but what I did created a redirect loop that I couldn't fix even when I removed the line! My hosts had to revert me back to an earlier backup of the whole site! 

Can anyone let me know the correct syntax fory htaccess file, to forward visitors to my homepage, off to the new one? That will tide me over until I'm brave enough to move the whole site over!

Move the whole site to the root folder. That way you won't need to do any redirects.

Thanks - I was nervous! It's the sort of thing I'll do on a Friday afternoon, then brick the whole site and panic about being offline for a weekend!
So I waited for the beginning of the week and moved  everything from my root folder into a backup file, then copied the entire wordpress site back to the root.
Tons stopped working! I was planning on running a migration plugin from within wordpress, but I couldn't log in without a cookies error, so I ended up asking my hosts for help. They reverted my very busy htaccess file for a default one and that brought things back to life. Then they thankfully ran the script to update all the links in the site to the new address, so I didn't have to do it myself.
So I guess if I hadn't have had a glitchy htaccess file I may have found it easy enough, but I'm so glad I had the hosts to help, and I'm glad I finally bit the bullet and simplified my site, it was pretty crazy having some pages on one system and some on another! I've now run dead link checkers, a 301 redirects plugin (so I never have to touch htacess again and risk killing the site! )
