I've used Spurl for over a year now and think it's great. I started using to bookmark sites as I was working from home as well as for a company in Edinburgh and I needed to be able to access my bookmarks from anywhere. Spurl allows you to do this - you create an account at www.spurl.net and download it and install it into your browser. Then you can start spurling your favourite sites. Then whereever you are in the world you can login to your spurl account and access all of your bookmarks - it's great also if you use a lot of different browsers as all your 'spurls' are in one place and can be access from any browser.

Ahhhh! very nice, just the other day I was thinking, God if only I could organise my Favorites better, becuase I have tons at work on different browsers with the same situation at home. So this is a nice idea, definately will be checking this out, I always worry people will see my embrassing Bookmarks! I won't go into details...

Great stuff.

One thing about Spurl is that the site logs all your spurls and you can see other people's latest spurls too. There is an option with each page you spulr to click a checkbox to make that particular spurl private and so it won't get added to the site's new spurls list. I used this feature a lot at the last company I worked for to bookmark test sites and admin/timesheet links that I didn't want to go public so you can hide all those 'embarassing' bookmarks of your - I'm intruiged but maybe I better not go there

good that you're discovered social bookmarks.

 

i use them to generate a lot of organic traffic to my blogs.

 

besides spurl, the most famous and prominent is del.icio.us

there is also furl, blinkbits, digg (also a biggie), there's about 36 different social networks.

 

besides online bookmarking, you can expect thousands of visits per hour if you're ranked in the top 50 or top 100 of the bookmarks.

I know what you mean - I only thought of spurling my own sites recently - how stupid am I!!!

 

I don't know much about the other you mention, but I've noticed a few people linking to my site from del.icio.us so someone must have bookmarked my site there. I will look into that and find out more - thanks for the other links too.

Excellent idea...completely new to me as well. My husband will LOVE this...he prefers to use a LiveCD OS (whatever flavor of Linux he finds for the week) and always forgets to backup his bookmarks.

 

Me, I'm one of those annoying people who can remember urls with no trouble...though it is getting PRETTY full in there. Time for a reformat.

Mmm social bookmarking is yummy I use Furl because they have a nice offline-page-saving functionality and I'm always scared that I'll bookmark something great only to come back in a few weeks and find a 404.

 

I haven't tried Spurl, does it allow you to save a "hardcopy" of the page on it's database? I've been looking for a service like Furl but with better usability and support.

I use Foxmarks extension to keep my bookmarks in sync between computers. It's not "sosical bookmarking", but I prefer my bookmarks offline on my own computers.

I'm not a fan of spurl, I'm developing a site that allows you to social bookmark a page to over 40 sites consecutively at the moment though, should be good
