June 22, 20179 yr It kinda sucks when a web designer can't design their own website... Anyway, the way the home page is currently set out is based on advice given by people who sell using their sales copy. https://kinfolkcreative.com.au/ I believe the home page should be structured more like... Headline (maybe) a little bit of intro text Portfolio Call to action (either contact form, or directly to booking calendar) Headline: "I create unique and user-friendly websites to help you get more leads and sales." Any other things you want to nitpick? Edited June 22, 20179 yr by heylouise
June 22, 20179 yr Hey, I hope you don't mind but I need to be completely honest with my comments to you, but I will make alternative suggestions when I criticise.. I think the biggest mistakes started before you even begun to build the website, your site, and therefore your whole business lacks personality, it lacks branding and it lacks the impression that you have something unique to offer to a specific kind of audience. You need to know your audience, you need to know whether they are older or younger, rich or poor, what do they like to do? Do they have families etc? This way you can get an idea of the sort of things that attract them, the sort of things they would like to see. One way to do this, for example, a little trick I use, is to go to the existing websites of the type of people I want to sell to, for example, accountants and find somewhere they list the people who run that company, take the directors, owners etc name and google it, facebook it, go to linkedin, find out about these people and continue to do it with at least 10 to 15 names. Once you have as much information as possible, find anything they have in common with each other, anything from age, goals, sports played etc. Now let's take for example that most of them enjoyed water sports or football etc, that would give you an idea that they are not simply boring accountants, that is just their job, they are up for some adventure.. Keep doing this and you will build a great list of words. Next, take those words and find images that you think represent those words, like exciting might mean 'motion' or 'colourful', creating a mood board to give you an idea of the feel that your branding or website should be. I will skip branding and go straight to website.. Since at this point you would have a great idea on the feel that you are looking for, the next stage is to find websites that give that feel, find elements from it that you think would go well, or that you could use, take ideas and shift them about, change colours, styles etc, twist them as you see fit. Lastly the homepage structure, this is by no means a definitive way to do it, but this is my thought process to answer clients questions 1) Who are you? - what are you all about? - and what you do? - this will include good visualisations that back up the text - 2) Is this for me? - who do you cater for and what is it you do exactly. 3) What services do you provide - please bear in mind, it is a researched fact that if text has an icon on the left-hand side of it, it's far more likely to be clicked and noticed. 4) Call to action - What do you want them to do next? The reason I have typed this out is that I see you are using a pre-made generic theme, the homepage image is not representative of what you do and the whole homepage has this bland feel about it, of course, the other pages would need work too... I would highly recommend this book https://www.amazon.co.uk/Neuro-Design-Neuromarketing-Engagement-Profitability-ebook/dp/B01MYE53YR/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1498145041&sr=8-3&keywords=neuro+web+design You will find your work would take a huge boost once you follow the advice in this book. Also watch this, it's great advice https://www.ted.com/talks/simon_sinek_how_great_leaders_inspire_action
June 22, 20179 yr Fuzzy pretty much summed everything up. People will only be on your website because the want a website. They don't care who you are. All they want to know is: can you build me the sort of website they want. Which means they want to see the websites you have built. They don't give two hoots if you handcraft them or build them with a box of spanners and duck tape. Your packages are pointless without prices and most potential clients won't understand what most of the highlights even mean. And to say I can't take bookings online with the basic package means little as all you need to install a plugin - 5 minutes work. The portfolio needs to tell me more about the projects (brochure, ecommerce, etc) and give me a link to each site. And why have you got woo installed? PS: I really struggled to read your logo Edited June 22, 20179 yr by fisicx
