this is one of my businesses, i havent built the site but would value members comments.

Nice design, very professional. Unique colour scheme too. It is well coded and easy to navigate. I'd say your developer has done an exceptional job.

At first glance, I'd say very nice, although you can tell straight away it is a joomla! template.(the nav bar)

Unfortunately, if you increase the text size, all hell breaks loose and the layout completely falls apart.

Also, if you don't have javascript available, the search facility doesn't work correctly and the scrolling images disappear.

So I would have to disagree with Shaun and say that I don't think your developer has done an exceptional job.

I am not disputing ElanMan's comments but I'm not too familiar with Joomla! But to bring up javascript accessibility (which isn't a major problem for most websites) on a popular CMS is pretty picky lol. One thing I agree with ElanMan on is perhaps the issue you have when you increase the text size. Though again, that isn't a major concern.

 

All in all I stick to my original thoughts on the site, it works and does the job for your business.

The thing with Joomla though, is you can pick the sites that use it out really easily.

 

I didn't think the site was too bad, although I think that favicon is from Joomlashack or somewhere like that.

I have to disagree again though Shaun.

In my opinion, degradable javascript is very important.

This is a business concern. Every visitor that doesn't have javascript enabled can't search the site for properties.

Unless they want to have a rental property for £50000 per month.

Javascript should be used to enhance the site, not have the site depend on it.

As for the text size increase, that needs to be sorted out.

How many visitors have the default font-size that you desire for your layout?

At the end of the day, 5 - 10 % of visitors coming to the site might click away which isn't really good enough!

I wouldn't worry about it not working without Javascript. It's worth losing a tiny percentage of visitors in order to have such a lovely site.

Making the site work without javascript needn't affect the appearance at all.

 

Anyway, it seems that I'm in the minority here.

For my next site I think I'll build the entire navigation with javascript. After all, who cares if some people can't use the site?

Looks great, though you may want to consider changing the image slide show into a flash, that way the transitions would be cleaner and the you'd use less bandwidth (ie the visitor at home will have a better load time).

i agree about the text size, on the tool bar it says "spot a buyer" i wanted "spot the buyer" but those extra two letters throw the whole site off, so i had to settle for what we have.

 

the images are loaded via Dezrez which is a back end property software that feeds onto the site,.

Uh oh, my site has been pleasantly pottering along and i have been taking my time listing on various directories and linking to sites, trying to get better rankings google and suddenly i have noticed the site doesnt exist on google.

clearly this is something i have done in error, so firstly any idea what i could have done? and secondly is there any way of contacting google to discuss?

Google looks dimly on sites that dont validate and your site has 105 validation errors and 28 warnings, google is fairly hot on accesssibility.

 

Elanman was spot on the site is not well coded at all.

 

you have to walk a fine line between the site being accessable and asthetically pleasing, in this day and age who can afford to turn away potential custom in the name of asthetics.

I have to agree with ElanMan the site can look as nice as it wants which it does, but if 10% of your visitors can't use it then thats 10% of your potential customers gone already.

Agreed. Given the current market particularly 10% loss of customers could significantly affect your bottom line. Also you can have a beautiful website that is also accessible.
