February 23, 20179 yr Hello everyone. My name is Tom and I've been laying bricks for over 10 years now and I've recently started blogging to share my bricklaying knowledge. Due to back issues I was forced to stay home and decided to share some of my skills digital. As I'm new to blogging/web designibg and have butterfingers when it comes to computers, my friend has been helping me with setting up my first website and giving me tips to improve the site. I was wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks that i can use to improve my website. It would be great if you can leave some feedback either positive or negative. Any feedback is welcome. Personally I think that the layout is okay, but the posts can be improved a bit more. Maybe I should create a better overview but that's why i turned here for any advice. Please have a look at my website: https://bricklaying.allaboutzone.com Thanks for having a look and if you could also share this among your friends I would be very grateful. Cheers!! Tom Taylor
February 24, 20179 yr Welcome Tom. First off totally love that you've taken this up after health issues, sharing your knowledge is an awesome thing to do. Design wise not a bad choice in WordPress theme. 'Technically' if you're friend is pretty handy with this sort of thing then I suggest they take a look with PageSpeed Insights to see if there's anything they can do about the issues raised, but don't panic, there are any high ranking sites for big companies that fail quite a few points here. Content wise it's getting there. Might I suggest some kind of vocabulary highlighter with either the information on a tool tip or side note. For example in your 'Brick wall finishing touches and helpful tips!' article it talks about 'perp' and 'bed joints', thing is I've no idea what they are so a little click or tool tip would enlighten me whereas someone who knows what they are would carry on reading. Funny enough I have a garden wall with loose bricks I want to have a bash at sticking back down, would love to see a guide on repairs and 'pointing'? I think that's what it's called when the cement mortar (look who learn't something new ) comes out of the joints of the face side?
February 24, 20179 yr Agree with the jargon. I have no idea at all what this means: "The “full brick” is a brick with a perforation volume rate of less than 15%. A stone with a pair of perforations is thus not necessarily to be regarded as perforated. This type of brick is usually fairly small. This stone is usually very hard, easy to use and frost resistant." Try to find a theme without the hero image (they are a unnecessary distraction) and doesn't have the hover effect on the homepage images (hovers don't work on a touchscreen). And look at ways to clean up all that code. There are huge chunks of code that shouldn't be there. But it's a good start.
