I have hired this web design company who keeps delaying with my requests about the design of my website and even though I have requested for them to improvise and gave them my ideas, seems like they are very limited with what can be done and still need my guidance and ideas. I will in turn cut the fee we have agreed.

 

Please please please help me to critically assess the desktop design (we will work on the mobile version later). I will be sending some of the instructions to my design team in order to improve it. This is the biggest project I have had and will make a big difference! Please ignore the text information, some of it doesn't make sense but we have a writer who will work on it later after the design is finished.

All they really done is install the free asmeninis theme and a whole bunch of plugins.

 

As a result there isn't much you can do without building a child theme and pretty much starting all over again.

 

The mobile layout isn't something you can do later - it needs to be built is right from the start. And now Google is pushing the whole mobile-first agenda it's vital to get this done.

 

The actual design is far less important than the the words and images you use. Get those right and you can use just about any theme you want. So rather than fret over the design aspects, put all your efforts into the words and images, the site structures, the calls to action and so on. This will then give you direction about the design of the site.

 

To give you an idea on how bad the site has been developed, Google gives you a mobile score of 46/100 and only 57/100 on a desktop.

 

Get a lightweight and fast theme and chuck all those plugins and start work on the content and navigation.

Thanks so much for your advise, fisicx. Interesting point about how bad the site has been developed - gave me an idea to use the other website graders.

Unfortunately it will need to stay the same plugin and yes, will think about using pictures and text wisely.

 

For the next project I will try to avoid WORDPRESS..

It's not the plugin, it's the theme that's the problem.

 

And you don't need all those plugins. Get a decent theme and you site will be faster, easier to use and work on a phone.

I agree. If you chose an unappropriate theme, it doesn't mean that Wordpress is bad in use. I like Wordpress exactly for the variety of themes. I can recommend to try the checked themes on https://www.templatemonster.com/wordpress-themes.php as I deal with wordpress themes development. Be not disappointed with Wordpress after the first time, try it again (but with a good theme) and you'll like the result!

Try to find a theme with shorter pages. Considering your line of business, it would be helpful if customers would have multiple pages with short information that is very direct and to the point. This is not a novelist website where people come to read novels. Also try to make it more mobile friendly as many nowadays access the internet through a mobile device. Good luck.
