Wordpress backup by FTP

Featured Replies

Hello,

I always use backup plugin, to get backaup of my Wordpress.
But sometimes backup in zip files is fail. So I decide to make second backup: by FTP.
My question: If I download all files by FTP to my hard drive, and drop a database, website will work after upload files on serwer, and import database?

Possibly. The only way to find out is to try it.

Or better still, se the backup option provided by your host. Or use vaultpress. Most backup plugins are very flakey, I don't trust them

At all.

Vaultpress in paid plugin, so I can't use it.

My provider have system backup up to 3 days. I'm afraid it's to short period to detect some troubles.

If I make a test, I will let You know

Thank You

I build usually small pages with low cost. If I make small website for $500, I cant pay every year $99, and my clients will not pay too.

Thats why I'm looking free solution. I know it's better when I'm using good plugin but ...

Choose a different host. The one I use has backups going back a month.

Or offer different solutions to your clients - maybe some of them will pay for offsite backups (there are plenty to choose from).

For one month? Nice

If website take a defect, I can restore backup for my clients (not for free).

But I'm looking to make a backup system - for free. Yes I know, I'm stingy :-)

Do You use vaultpress on all websites? And pay fee?

Some clients use vaultpress, some manage with their hosting backup, others I host myself. For these I have 2TB SSD plugged into the back of the server that backs up daily. But I've not had need to use it as I've never broken a site that can't be fixed.

Do You make website on wordpress? And if Yes, do You make some specially security?

I use wordfence, fail2ban, stop user enumeration and a locked down server and I only use a plugins where necessary.

I've got a server with about 30 sites and only one of then has ever been hacked - and that was because his hotmail account hacked exposing his login details. It was fixed in about an hour.
