If it's not too late I'd personally recommend not using Joomla, I've had a play with it in the past and found that the admin interface isn't very intuitive at all. If you're wanting to use a CMS I would personally recommend GetGrav, and there are many other members that would recommend you use CraftCMS.

 

Compared with Joomla I find the WordPress admin interface more intuitive. But wouldn't recommend either.

I also agree that you should avoid Joomla if possible, it is simply awful. WordPress isn't the best but it's a better than Joomla for sure.

Go to Extensions -> Modules and enable the Main Menu module. Position it in the template area that you want it and in the Menu Assignment tab switch it on for the pages you want.
