I currently have a site that has news related to my hobby www.fpv-live.co.uk . I now need to progress my site to something more social as things have taken off (pardon the pun) better than I could have expected. Looking for something that has news content and also a social media aspect for pilots to communicate on. A social media type hub would be great. Any suggestions on how to do this? I have looked at BuddyPress, but I can not get the thing to work as it says on the tin.

 

I would be willing to pay somebody to get together a news/social media type site. Wordpress is prefered, so perhaps a template design and a sub domain for the social aspect of things?

 

Shoot me some ideas then I will post a job in the relevent sections once I have a better idea on how to go about things.

You can install a facebook page onto a website like so, if you look top right hand side of the page you can also link in twitter and other social media types. Most web design platforms have that function.

The facebook page thing is coded in though. I can help with that if you wanted to make a facebook page - It's a bit like a blog of sorts I suppose.

Looks like there isn't in your website. Have you switched to another site ?

If you're on a mobile device scroll down and you'll see the facebook page, if you're on PC you will see all the links all over the site.

If you want to develop a social media site than it's better to use any php framework than CMS. You can use codeignetor or laravel for it.Because for that you need to do too much customization so it's not recommended to go fro a CMS.

I'm having a feeling that you're on that stage of your development career where you think a CMS is the worst decision in any project. Let me tell you that we've all been here before.

 

Take Wordpress for example, this CMS is insanely flexible and properly coded, if you write your code(theme+plugins) in the same manner and don't use third party plugins/themes badly coded you can build anything and can take on any traffic. Take a look at sites like thenextweb.com or many many others.

Well, there are some of my clients who prefer to use frameworks rather than CMS. and word press is best for blogging not for any social media site where you need to take too much security measures .

And CMS can't be a worst decision but it depends that what sort of site you are developing.
