  1. I'd just like to thank of everyone for their feedback. I'm still in the process of updating the website and products and I need to fix a few mistakes/errors on the website but its slowly getting there Currently working on the brand page and the sets of designers. I really want a search function but the coding side of it for my products is scary hard (Something I'll look at over time) Next focus is on the Wallpaper Murals and the page which at the moment is rubbish and then onto the Paintable wallpapers (people are looking for these) feel free to have another look + criticise Thanks again
  2.    fisicx reacted to a post in a topic: Reviewing my E-Commerce site - Home Decor Hull
  3. Thank you for all your help by the way, its criticism I wanted and I got it. Oh yeah thank you for pointing out the quick view hover thing (I need to check it again I dont know why I thought it worked on Mobile, I'm pretty sure I can have it as a permanent fixture rather than the hover thing). I'll do some testing later in the week. Also working on my pagination for the all wallpaper so it only shows << < 1 2 3 4 5 > >> then when you go to 6 it has 6-10 etc. Still need to do a lot of work into the images (show each colour on the ones that have several, in a collage) and need to do some working out to see if I can add a category filter section - the coding for this is looooooooooong and the ones I've tested don't work as I want them too. To be honest I don't really like them. I may need it for the future when we have more products though. I might just add shop by colour instead - not sure as people like to shop online in different ways I can make massive changes to the theme - even the coding to the main template so it can be easily amended to how I want it. I just need more imagination and help from colleagues.
  4. I will look into a standalone platform as we grow - for now to get this off the ground squarespace will do, its not a bad platform to build from and its reasonably cheap to be honest Yes, in relation to the zoom feature, I don't like it so it's going to be removed anyway. I just found it fun on a desktop but you're right its not needed for the majority of people using the website "if 60% of your visitors are using phones to browse the site then that should be your priority - the UX is still poor which is why it's not converting as well as it could." Yes I'm working on this, Still need to do a little play about with some items/pages. "I agree you can click on the image but the result isn't any bigger - it's the same width as before. And you can't zoom in to see the detail." not sure if this is firefox again but as you click the image it should enlarge to full screen size. Also the quick view button is pretty handy
  5. Hello again Fiscis, Thanks again, I noticed the site is slightly slower this is to do with the DNS attacks over in America (The DNS was used by Squarespace) I'm in discussions about the speed as it has reduced yet I've reduced the amount of data needed to load on the page - I don't use shopify. The zoom feature isn't available on Tablet/Mobile but if you click the image it will enlarge. Its not needed on mobile/tablet. I've taken this idea from other competitors who use it a lot as I have. The paintable wallpaper section is to be designed yet - we've not had time to focus on this section as its one of the unpopular sections it will wait for now - the same as the paint section (which we may remove) we have focused on our normal wallpapers for now (as per our marketing and advertising) At the moment we're focused on Wallpapers -Fabrics and other bits may join the site in the near future but for now its wallpapers - when that happens our tag line will change. Phone is the most popular usage on our website with upto 60% of users connecting to our site through a phone Desktop is the next most used - with the highest % conversion rate - funny enough thats the same reported for most sites. The least used item is a tablet so its something we will fix in the future but the above takes priority for the reasons stated. In relation to the add to cart - I will take a look at a default selection, however on most of our products its a colour choice (We wouldn't pre select that for people) others also don't do that (competitors) Also when you add to cart it should change from a 0 to a 1 and it's worked on every device I've tested this on. When you click on the cart you will get a go to checkout page Check it out here http://www.homedecorhull.com/commerce/show-cart As for the bullet points - I also noticed none of those centred - ANNOYING! Something I'll take a look at thank you. The shop by room and shop by style has been the main focus of works for now
  6. Made some changes in relation to the recommendations above. Still have work to do and not added in a filter category function yet to help you when you search (that'll come in the future) Its a lot cleaner but I think its missing something, I'm not sure what. I've had a check over the website as have others to identify bugs. The paintable section, paints and supplies are still to be updates and will come soon. Overall I think its improved but still a lot of work to be done. Feedback would be appreciated
  7. Hi Guys, I want to thank you again for your criticism on the website, its hard to see when you're the one looking at it everyday. I've started to a new webdesign and hope to have it it completed before the end of the year. If I get time it could be a lot sooner. To be honest I'm not rushing as our busy period is now and in December it goes quiet, doesn't pick up again really until Feb. Anyway, some of the things that I'm looking to implement on your feedback The Home page will stay more or less then same A SIMPLE product page - when you're in the product all the blurbs and big headers have gone - leaving one word line at the top and the product, the add to cart will be at the top of the page! change in navigation At the top we will have Home - Wallpaper (with a drop down box and some categories) Paintable Wallpapers (Same) Wallpaper Murals (No sub navigation) - Paints and Supplies (Some work will go into this side - maybe removed from the e-commerce and put into viewable page in-stead) and contact us All the other stuff like reviews, updates, refund policy and more will go into the footer! Category pages will have a blurb - this is a bit for SEO and other bits for the reader (I imagine most will skip through) The next thing I'm working on and it'll take a bit of coding and may be added at a later date is a filter category option After I've completed all this, I can get back to uploading more products
  8. Thanks again Guys, In relation to the changes I can setup the new template and just change the style to fit the new template (It won't take long at all) I've thought about shopify but I'll be honest - I just don't like it, I can't do anywhere near the amount I can do on squarespace - including the analytics. Not looked at Magneto - might take a look but just renewed squarespace for + 1 year With Squarespace, you can actually set up a template and then write your own CSS - A few reasons I don't do that, I'm not a pro and I don't have the time I have done the odd bits here and there though. I'm quite happy with the templates I use, I can just about make all the amendments I want to it (when I work out how) but again its one of those things that takes time for me to look and implement. I also have to analyse what works etc, this business sector (Wallpaper) and developing websites to this scale is new to me and it costs next to nothing for the yearly cost to squarespace so all is good. We're a very small business with under 100k turnover a year so going out and paying mega money for a website isn't going to happen - nor is the consultancy. Its a bit of a start up to be honest, we're just slowly building the branding and expanding our market. Which in the first year has grown by about 50% on last year when the old owner had the business. No internet presence to today - Top of search results for wallpaper Hull and near on top for most the surrounding areas. A lot to do yet though. In relation to that wallpaper you can't see, you wont, its paintable wallpaper with very little or no design, a lot of people buy this as its a cheap way to keep the home tidy and clean - they just repaint it through the years. I'm still working on this section a lot more will come. PS It's not a copy and paste I just forgot to link in the website (I can fix that quite easily) - Also add to cart is at the bottom - This will change with the new template - Thank you Oh in relation to the cart I've been trying to decide if it should go straight to checkout when someone wants something or if it should add to cart if they want to keep looking - I'm still analysing this, looking at competitors too, theres a mixture of how they do this. sorry for the back and forth above, I'm knackered after a very long day full of cold. Overall thank you, I will be updating the website soon, this will implement some of the things above. Two things which would be nice for the future, which I will look at is a box section in the main product page where you can click colours/designs etc. Then I'd need to update every product though haha. that'd get rid of the category section etc. Not so keen on the navigation I've set up but it'll do for now
  9. Thank you for the advice guys Things I'm going to work on (which will take some time and maybe even a change in the main template) which is stopping me changing things I want to even with Coding. Change the add to cart to show top of the page above the description - simple yet I think it'll be effective. Removing all the wording when looking at a product - This is to do with the page that the products show on (will require a change in template) Mailchimp is already activated and we use this - for abandonment carts it costs per year, something we're looking at and will probably activate at some point this year. We do try and check out other E-Commerce sites (within our sector) and its often where we get our ideas. Squarespace is pretty good and it has purchase funnels, activity log, abandoned cart, popular pages for each person and a lot more - the analytics in squarespace is really good. In relation to not seeing the go to cart that's weird I've done some checks on a tablet, PC, Laptop, Mobile and IPad and its pretty clear on the main screen on all. Squarespace is bringing in more enabling us to make amendments to the checkout page - which is much needed. Thank you again, I'll come back in a month or so when the new template is ready to be launched. I might ask for feedback before launching it.
  10. You can do most of the google things like maps, reviews and other bits through google business! Google + is good for SEO but from what I can see it takes a hell of a lot of work for very little benefit especially here in the UK. If you speak to the average JoBlogs on the street you'll find most don't use it (I'd say well over 80%) Stick with your market Facebook is good for your average shopper Twitter is useless unless you think people will follow you (A blogger maybe) celeb etc Instagram is pretty good for all, if you can use it effectively + link to other social media platforms + images are top quality Pinterest The list goes on, there's only so much businesses can do. Just need to work out which is beneficial to the business and which are just not cost effective in time and money!
  11. Hi Alzer, I like the simple layout websites that are easy to use, navigation is simple enough too. You can use proper social icons on squarespace so make sure you check them out and add them to the footers/headers and about me page. If you plan to sell images you an also do that on squarespace with ease. If you're just having a bit of fun, it looks ok - just a few ideas When you click articles your navigation changes to sign up/write a story - something you can change - Squarespace has a blog page you can use, where people can write on your articles etc and you can post links/youtube videos etc. In relation to people singing up you can have this in your footer again and its pretty simple, check it out on our website - www.homedecorhull.com, we've linked it to mailchimp (used alongside squarespace) and also free. one other thing, when you click on an image to look at like London it takes you into that category but the rest of the categories remain at the bottom of the page - might be worth thinking about changing that?
  12. Thanks again Fisicx not meaning to be rude but people look for deals on and offline - We choose what products to compete on and advertise them through google, we have a lot of products online not the best price across the board and others that beat all stores. We use the google shopping campaigns to maximise our advertising budget on those products we want to and at what time. Our most recent promotion was Madison Rose Wallpaper which ended up in us having a lot of sales. We need to have those popular brand products as thats what brings people to the website looking at all other products. A lot of people choose to click and collect which is already offered on the website (if you look). Why would we take down the E-Commerce side when it makes profit? Our conversion rate is low in comparison to the average 3-4% but remember our stock online is really low our website is only 1 year old and we're still i the process of fixing quite a few things (considering we have a lot of people reviewing our site too). At the start of the year we had less than 50 products online and even today we don't have a lot of products in comparison to our competitors. It'll change with time. I expect our conversion rate to up to 2 to 3% this year as its started to go up quarter on quarter and we will keep working on it. Now back to the question about the website - I'm looking for feedback on navigation, checkout stages and product placement and looks. Thanks again,
  13. Hello all, I've been here before and found the reviews really useful. I've worked quite hard on SEO and social media over the last few months and now I'm back on with the website - I've just started to put some of the paintable wallpapers online. Please take time to look if you're going to provide some good feedback Website - www,homedecorhull.com Social Media www.facebook.com/homedecorltd15 www.twitter.com/homedecorhull So at the moment we get about 100-200 people a day on the website a day and our conversion rate is pretty low at about 1%, not only that but a lot of people are abandoning purchase at the checkout stage - Over 300 since the start of the year. A few things we need to do Paintable section - this section is currently under development and I hope to have the pages/layout and stuff sorted in the next few weeks. Will get a good 30-40 products online too Wallpapers - This section is completed and I need to work on getting products online. I look forward to seeing what you guys think Thanks in advance James
  14. I know, we looked at a lot of web-design sites including wordpress etc. We have full control over the structure of our site - its me that's done things a certain way (for ease mainly)
  15. Thank you, good feedback. Remember this is a constant work in progress this is like a side hobby to me. The website costs us £190 instead of paying a webdesigner many thousands lol In relation to click and collect that is certainly something I will update into the webpages + the range of wallpapers we have available. I'll get there with time. Thanks again guys
  16. The most important thing for us is positive feedback from customers, which is what we get from web-users at the moment. Though I'm told we don't have enough choice (online) Our website may have large pictures on and slow load times but its better than most the ones others use (Example) Hull Daily Mail in hull It crashes most computers with the amount of adverts coming through lol
