December 9, 201510 yr Dear forum users, My name is Kevin and I am Product Designer. Over the past few months I've been trying to find information on the how to go about creating a portfolio/blog site to showcase my work. I have no experience in web design and I am looking for a novice friendly means of doing so. I began to build a website on wix, but I found their ads to be quite a turn off and their subscriptions to be hard to rationalise for something that I will be receiving very little use. I currently have a domain and hosting, but would like to get some expert advice on creating a site with as little hassle as possible. Are there any free website building tools out there that do not show ads or is it quite a big ask? Thanks for your help. Regards, Kevin
December 11, 201510 yr Kevin, I think I can help you, please see this thread: http://www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/topic/84202-im-looking-for-web-development-students-free-of-charge/
December 12, 201510 yr Hi Kevin Have you tried https://wordpress.org? You could set up a blog site on there free of charge. There are plenty of guides on the internet, a novice could probably set it up in a couple of hours. All the bestJames
December 12, 201510 yr Another option would be to use your hosting and install Wordpress and buy a pre-made portfolio or blog template.
December 14, 201510 yr Personally I think a portfolio should be custom built to suit your needs. Make it look how you would like it to look. If you ned some help or want some ideas, give us a shout. J info@islandwebdesign.co.uk www.islandwebdesign.co.uk Edited December 14, 201510 yr by Islandjoey
December 14, 201510 yr Wordpress is a really popular choice now, plus it comes with a lot of themes available (which you can edit) and lots of plugins which can help you put in more features into your website.
