August 1, 201511 yr I was looking through the 'Awstats' my host provides and noticed a few visits from the Netscape browser (spread out over a few months). This confused me a little as I thought it was basically dead? Anyone else get these? (IE6, too...)
August 1, 201511 yr This is just a guess but with all the different devices (from game consoles to watches) that can access a webpage it wouldn't supprise me if some user agents are not recognized or confused with others by some hosts stats software. If you want 100% exact data you might have to sign up with a special analytics service or write your own script connected with a constantly updated DB of user agents like the WURFL Database API or similar. August 1, 201511 yr It's worth noting that some security software will 'sniff' the URL you are connecting to and will pose as an older vulnerable browser to try and provoke an attack.
August 1, 201511 yr I still see Netscape, Konqueror and other very old browsers pop up from time to time. There will inevitably be some people in the world running very old computers and O's
August 3, 201511 yr Author It's worth noting that some security software will 'sniff' the URL you are connecting to and will pose as an older vulnerable browser to try and provoke an attack. I'm not entirely sure what you mean - do you mean some users might have anti virus software that makes them appear as using a different browser? Or are you saying someone might be trying to attack my site? This is just a guess but with all the different devices (from game consoles to watches) that can access a webpage it wouldn't supprise me if some user agents are not recognized or confused with others by some hosts stats software. Yeah, I suppose that would make sense. I'm going to start using Google Analytics. I still see Netscape, Konqueror and other very old browsers pop up from time to time. There will inevitably be some people in the world running very old computers and O's That's true - my site gets very, very few visitors, though, so it seems odd that of those, some would be using old, rare browsers. Well, at least it's not just me! Edited August 3, 201511 yr by rhubarblover
