May 11, 201511 yr Hello I hope someone can help. I have noticed when you put my company name into google my home page is no longer listed but there is a https link with my web developers company name which takes you to my site. I have spoken to my web developers and they say it's because of some bad links that my websites homepage isn't being indexed but I'm confused as I don't do any link building. I can send you a screen shot if it explains my problem in a better way. I look forward to your response Kind regards
May 11, 201511 yr Author Thank you for your reply. My URL is www.citysecuritysystems.co.uk but if you google "city security systems" you will see my webdevelopers https link at the top of the search
May 11, 201511 yr It looks like the test website or similar might have been under their domain. Most web designers will have your website in their portfolio section so it is common for them to come up in the search results for your company, however it should never be the first. Check your Google Webmaster tools to see you are getting indexed.
May 11, 201511 yr Author Nahosting Thank you for your reply it was really helpful. I spoke to my web developers and they have told me it's not being indexed by Google due to some links but I don't do any link building
May 11, 201511 yr Next time you contact the developer who I believe are these people https://www.creativeideaz.co.uk/ Tell them their security certificate is invalid.
May 11, 201511 yr https://www.creativeideaz.co.uk/ goes to a copy of your website, which is why it's being indexed by Google. I assume it's a development site that Creative Ideaz has forgotten to take offline. This needs taking down immediately because you will be getting penalised for duplicate content. Creative Ideaz's own website (which displays a number of error messages, worrying for a web design company) is http://www.creativeideaz.co.uk/
May 11, 201511 yr Author Nick Thank you for your feedback, would the duplicate site be one of the reasons why my site is not being indexed by Google? Kind regards
May 11, 201511 yr Their homepage is also over 4.5mb! that is HUGE! Some of the text breaks on mobile.. agreed it doesn't look too good from a company that is supposed to specialise in this.
May 11, 201511 yr Nick Thank you for your feedback, would the duplicate site be one of the reasons why my site is not being indexed by Google? Kind regards It would indeed. When Google finds duplicate content it will deem one of them to be the authoritative source of the information and index it at the expense of the other(s). If the algorithms think it is a deliberate attempt to increase traffic by manipulating search results it will penalise both. In your case I think the former is what has happened. Development sites should never be left online, but if they have to be for any reason, there should be a disallow instruction in robots.txt to ensure they are not indexed. There is no robots.txt file on either the development or live versions of your website. Edited May 11, 201511 yr by NickC4555
May 11, 201511 yr Author Thank you to everyone who has posted I really appreciate your help. I will get me web developers to add the robots.txt file and get them to remove there duplicate site.
May 11, 201511 yr A robots.txt file on the development site would be bolting the stable door after the horse has bolted. It should just be taken offline. Then add a 301 redirect to it that redirects each page to the corresponding page on the live site, submit a sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools and also in Webmaster Tools, Fetch as Google to immediately submit the url and linked pages to the index.
May 26, 201511 yr compress your site site using gzip and add robots.txt when google indexed your site and add xml file also
May 27, 201511 yr Are you enrolled to Google webmaster tools ? If not, register an account, add your website and see if there are any manual actions regarding your website first.
May 27, 201511 yr Author Thank you to everyone who have replied to my post you've been really helpful, I think I need to have a meeting with my developer as there are a lot of issues that need urgently sorting out
