Hi guys!

I've been asked to make a logo for a friend's association project, focused on promoting local arts, culture and tourism.

They're just at the beginning; they don't even have a name yet.

It didn't help as I didn't know where to start from.

I was thinking to make it with inks and watercolors, or simply drop some colours in PS.

I'm not sure about the fork (I thought food could represent local traditions/habits).

Any help/critique will be most welcome.

Its too complex, bring it back, would be great as a normal image but its way too much for a logo

Do you mean less colours or the all design?

Also, do you think the concept is good?

There are many ways to test if a logo is a good logo, one way is to see what it looks like black and white, another is to see how it transforms when its made much smaller or much bigger.

 

The Swiss army theme says to me that you are trying to make them seem like one place or thing does it all but you need to be careful as the pointed out pencil could be deemed as threatening considering that it is in the position a knife would be to stab someone. I am not sure what the fork represents, I can see the pencil and the paint brush as art but the other two, I am not so sure.

 

I would do some research into how this is already being represented by others, what the local area uses in order to promote itself, try to appeal to the locals emotionally, what is it that would make them look at it and want to have something to do with it, its about audience, not opinion.

The concept with the Swiss arny knife is great. But as Fuzzy poits out it's probably to complex. What you have done would serve better as a poster. Considder the fact that a logo should scale down to small sizes well. Maybe you should portray the knife from a clean "side view" without the perspective.

The fork should represent local traditions, as almost every place has its typical recipe.

Here is a second concept.

As you suggested, I kept it simple and tried a b&w version.

This time, instead on the activities, I concentrated on places.

The association wants to promote a partnership between Ontario (Canada) and Piemonte (an Italian region famous for its wines).

I don't know whether to add more leaves as if it was a bunch of flowers.

I still have to think to colours.

you could keep it simple by making it an outline? you dont have to fill all the time, obviously the important thing there is to show it is a bottle.

Gonna be hard to work with a logo that tall, it's gonna look tiny if you want it part of a mobile nav for example. It could work, but usually wider less tall logos work better IMO

I made one step back.

Wine is made from grapes which is closer to the leaf than a bottle.

And considering that audience will be mainly young, I went for a less formal design.

I drew some grapes trying to shape it like a heart (well, a kind of) and then I vectorized it.

The leaf is on the way.
