Review - First Draft of Charity Site

Featured Replies

Just a quick first draft at a website for a charity client. The colours and logo are supplied by them, and I've done my best to work them into the design.

They were keen on a website I'd produced previously that was pretty simple and clean - so I've tried to give them the same, but not the same template :D

This is a mock of an internal page, and I'm interested to hear constructive comments about the design and code.

Thank you!

The website is here and you'll need wdf/wdf to access it :)

Thank you!

Yea, nice!

Not sure on the watermark - wonder if it really needs it as its so clean and crisp. Hows about an image on the page (like a photo) which will help lift it.

But very nice at a quick glance :)

The faded logo in the background of the content? That's exactly what I'm thinking - I keep adding and then removing it. I think a photograph might work better - will add one later today.

Thank you :)

Nice looking site mate, I would try and align it a bit better though, for examples the navigation text would look better aligned with the header in my opinion. And while looking at it again, I am wondering weather the key+handle image is a bit overused? Maybe a picture of a house in the same sort of style...?

Agree with above comments. Nice clean site.

As for the code, the only things that I can see are the lack of alt attributes for images and title attributes for links.

Overall, nice site :)

I agree with all the comments so far. Definitely lose the background image. Very nice clean code, and easy to read content.

Nice to see someone doing a site for charity, too. Well done.

Looks good and clean. :D

(p.s your signature amused me lol!)

Yup, I agree about the sidebar navigation and the header alignment - I did have them in-line, but overall it just didn't seem to look right, even though it was 'grid correct'.

Good point. D'oh :D

Thank you for comments. :)

Perfect looking site. I mean comments have been made where I noticed things, so I won't mention it.

But overall I think it looks very nice!

Hmm, that's not good - looks like your Lucida Sans, Lucida Sans Unicode is affected. Might just be a duff font?

What platform you on?

Just updated the file: removed the watermark, changed the grid spacing of the logo/nav to fit inline with the sidebar nav - it does work after all and changed the copy font to Arial. :)
