im trying to get a page 1 listing on google. ive spent the last 3 days listing my site with the free web directories and am continuing to do so. i think iv optimised the site ok. im wondering if anyone would have any more tips to help me out.

i'm taking on a job for a client who wants to get to the top of google and i want to make sure i can do it myself before i take it on.

Sorry Catherine but it sounds like you've fallen into the same trap as others that think it's easy.

Getting to gp1 can take forever, it can take days. A site I recently designed and developed went straight to page 1, position 4 the day it was released. I have other sites that don't even know what page 10 looks like.

It takes months if not years to learn the craft.

 

It isn't just about optimising a site and submitting to loads of directories.

 

Don't take on jobs you can't do, you'll only end up looking stupid.

Your site can't be reached

 

Pointandstare said it all really - you can never ever guarantee a no.1 listing, or for that matter any listing at all.

 

The "normal" advice still applies - make a useful web site, with usesful and interesting content, aimed at the visitor (and not the owners whim).
