I have a website that was developed around 18 months ago which I have only now noticed that it has never been indexed by Google, Yahoo, etc (does not appear in a search result). There is nothing unique to the site, 6 pages, a few oubound links, HTML and nothing that could be viewed by the search engines as inappropriate. I have checked the meta tags and they look OK.

 

Any thoughts as to why this might be? Is my best plan now just to submit a Google request for indexing and hope that it gets picked up?

Its also best to promote your site in places that are relevant. For example, its not a web design related website so here isn't that useful when placing a link as no one will be interested in it. Find places that will be interested in seeing the site and post the link there (as long as you are allowed as some places may not like advertising). The more links you have the more useful place that you post the better it will be for SEO.

 

 

Also you might want to make it easier for the bots to go through your pages and code the site up using css and semantic html (should be easy for a intermediate web designer to turn that simple design into css )

Thanks for te reply. It's an old site, one of the first I done, hence the quality. I am going to review the design and use CSS and do some of the SEO stuff.

And he will come in 5-10 days for sure, i use it for my sites and it never fails. Submit it there.

The test of a good site is if you DON'T submit it to google and it get's indexed. Generally, if you have to submit it to get indexed then you're doing something wrong.
