A question about my protfolio

Hi all.

New to the site, but have been coding on and off for around 10 years. Im currently using bootstrap to create a wordpress theme with php and was wondering, how can I make it more 'me' and take away that 'bootstrap' feel. Wuld I have to theme bootstrap from the ground up? or maybe I just need to bring in some psd work?

Any feedback/constructive criticism welcome, and thank you in advance

We use bootstrap on most of our projects and they all look pretty much unique. We literally stripped down bootstrap to it's bare bones. The only things I really keep is the reset, the grid system and some of the helper functions, along with the JavaScript such as carousel, modals etc.

This is a better approach I find than overriding the bootstrap styles each time as it's a lengthy process and produces bloated code. Bootstrap really is designed for prototyping and rapid deployment hence everything looking good but a bit generic.

If you download the uncompiled Bootstrap less files you can import certain sections of bootstrap so you only use the stuff you need.

Of course the other way is to ditch all those heavy 3rd party frameworks and write your own CSS :) That way you get rid of the bloat that frameworks often come with and you end up with leaner, faster sites.

Thanks for the tips guys. BlueDreamer, I usually do write my own CSS, but thought that Bootstrap would give me the ability to code up the site a bit quicker.

This may be the bootstrap page you are looking for. All you need to do first is work out exactly which parts of the package your project is using and select just those components and customize any variables before downloading.

Or if you prefer Sass here's the official port.
