July 21, 201313 yr I don't work in the business but I'm almost 100% sure that PHP is the most used server side language. I don't really see any disadvantages with it? Just check this list: http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.html PHP is number five as the most used programming language in 2013. I don't even see ASP in the list. July 21, 201313 yr That chart is a little misleading. The most used server side language for web development is PHP. Try to stay away from anything MS unless you are a big fan of products from MS and will knowingly use their servers and tech for the rest of your life. PHP is a great language if not a bit dirty to use. Ruby with the addition of Ruby on Rails is quickly growing in the ranks so at might be another alternative for you.
July 23, 201313 yr Although MS have massively improved in recent years, PHP is by far more popular. You might also want to look at Ruby and Ruby on Rails too.
July 24, 201313 yr Idk how reliable this info is but i came across this a while back http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/TIOBE-Index-Python-more-popular-than-PHP-1186296.html
