Hi,

 

I have been working on redesigning my portfolio recently and have it 95% finished and just wondered if some fellow designers would give me some feedback on it.

 

I still need to add some more pieces to my portfolio section, some of my graphic design work and I'm just finalising another responsive site at the moment but the majority of it is on there.

 

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Nice use of transitions, very clean minimal site. The responsive seems to have a few bugs in my browser. I would add the same css transitions to the view project buttons on the screenshots as well. Looks good overall though, nice job!

Thanks ZacKnoblauch. I am all about clean and minimal design and that was one of the things I focused on heavily when designing the site. You say the 'responsive seems to have a few bugs', do you mean the responsive design/layout or the responsive navigation? Just so I can have a look at it.

 

I thought about adding the same transition to the buttons that take you to my projects but wasn't sure if a transition on top of another transition was the right thing to be doing, definitely food for thought though.

If you could add some sort of gentle colour fade where your name changes colour ever so slightly for the duration whilst you're on the page I think that would make it awesome, but then I suppose you're not going to be staring at your name too long, you'd be looking at the portfolio.

 

Very clean and neat though, nice work.

I really like your logo and I like the minimalist design.

 

On IE8 and IE7 the menu seems to turn into the mobile version.

 

On IE8 the hover effect on your homepage -> portfolio area seems to stay hovered. (Same with IE7) Although it doesn't effect usability by much.

 

The <label> tags on your form are just too light. Some people will really struggle to read them, probably best to give a little more contrast.

 

If it were me I'd also add "cursor: pointer;" to your "input#submit" . Specifically for the contact form button.

 

Other than those small bits and bobs I can't find anything else that would cause issue. You've got a really nice website there.

Panda, thanks for the detailed response, my sister looked at it yesterday and she was using IE8 and pointed out the issues with the hovers and nav, I will look at it over the weekend and see if I can figure out why it is happening... IE must die

Nice site, Stephen. It's clean, simple and clearly informs the viewer of your mission to create simple and professional designs. The only thing niggling me, on a personal note, is the choice of font on the front page. It's a classic case of increasing the size of an ordinary font to the point where it appears cracked and ridged (if looking close-up). Might I suggest something crisper? Or a Sans font designed to be scaled up dramatically while maintaining consistency? I feel the same about the 'My Name is Stephen O'Connor' text - it appears a bit too chunky in my estimation. If you like them then fantastic, but that's just a personal opinion. Good work.

Thanks Throzen. I humphed and hawed (Scottish terms for thought long and hard ) about the font(s) on my site, I chose Museo Sans because I generally love it but I do see - on Windows especially - that the font isn't that crisp/clear. It is something I will probably change to be honest as it is getting to me a little.
