New Monitor

Featured Replies

Hi currently using a 23" IPS 1920x1080 monitor which I'm finding too small and also causing me terrible eye strain. I have to have the brightness set down low (20%) as any higher and i feel like its burning my eyes out lol

I've seen a 27" TN panel 1920x1080 monitor that I'm thinking of buying. Do you think the eye strain is because the monitor is on the small side or because its an IPS panel?

Don't trade down to a TN, they're really not great for design work because they don't reproduce colours as accurately. 1920*1080 is also a dreadfully low resolution at 27", good monitors at that size tend to be 2560*1440.

Try a lamp with a diffuse shade positioned behind your monitor, so light in the screen area and around it are roughly the same luminance. Every couple of hours, take a break frm the screen for about 10 minutes. Look out the window and let your eyes focus on something at least 15 feet away. Use eyedrops, especially if you're a contact lens wearer.

So is it best to get a 24" at 1920x1080 or 27" 2560x1440? Writing in 2560x1440 I suppose would better if I did it responsive wouldn't it?

Not to do with actual monitors but for your eye strain. If it's just a problem when it gets dark...

Have you heard of the software f.lux? It turns your brightness down when it starts to get dark. At first it's really weird but when you get used to it, it's much easier on the eye and if you're doing colour work you can switch it off.

I personally hate 16:9 monitors (feels like I'm looking through a letterbox), so I'd say get a 24" at 1920*1200 or a 30" at 2560*1600.

The 27" screen on my iMac is 2560x1440 - excellent size screen. Can't say I notice the letterbox effect as Chris described but every screen in the house is 16:9. The large screen may alleviate the effect? It seems 16:9 is the ratio - everything down to my phone is 16:9!

That said, I used a 24" 16:9 monitor today - and I commented on how wide it looked.
