Hey guys, since 2 weeks ago, I got this new fancy laptop.

All works fine but there is 1 thing that annoys me.

 

When I'm typing, I constantly move mine palm over the mouse on the laptop keyboard.

I wonder if I somehow can deactivate it so I can use the usb connected mouse instead.

 

It's annoying when I'm typing blindy and accidently clicked on the big square mouse to move mine cursor more up.

Windows 7 im guessing?

 

if so:

 

Start -> Control Panel -> Mouse -> Device Settings -> "Disable internal pointing device when External USB pointing device is attached"

 

Alternivily select your touch pad and select settings and adjust the settings there.

Alternatively if you're on Ubuntu, there's a "disable touchpad while typing" option under preferences->keyboard, you may well find something similar on other OSs.

Ever thought of posting the actual laptop you're using?

i press the function key and f7 and it disables my track pad on my windows 7 laptop.

It's under the Hardware tab in the propertie mouse menu?

Only option I got is to remove it.

some of their laptops have a mechanical switch to do what you want. There may also be some software that comes with the laptop for the touchpad to do what you want without removing the driver.

My HP has Synaptics pointing drivers. Under the settings there, there's a palm touch feature thing that kinda detects when you are moving your finger over the touchpad rather than your palm and it actually reads palm movements pretty well while you can still lightly touch your finger over the touchpad and use it as usual.

And this yeah, I can double tab the top left corner of my touchpad and it automatcally disables it, until I double tab that portion again.

I got it deactivated without removing the driver.

alright

press start > devices and printers > Right click the mouse icone > Mouse Setting.

Go on Device setting tab.

Select the synaptic touchpad.

Click on deactivate.

 

That picture at start is trough a different location.

 

Might be the laptop difference.
