Hi guys, this is my first website and the domain is PassGen.org. Suggestions most welcomed

Hi, for what the website is, I kind of like it. It does the job and looks nice and tidy. Theres a few things that I feel would make it nicer:

 

Don't really like the logo, especially the lock, which looks like it's been knocked up in paint. You want smooth edges on it at least. On further inspection the whole logo has jagged edges.

 

Definitely get rid of the pop up thing asking the user to 'like' the website is very annoying and offputting! (Especially after 3 times!).

 

Could do with a proper contact form, as anyone without a mail client installed (like me) can't contact you.

 

The Generate button could do with 'cursor:pointer' in the css.

BTW can any one suggest me good font for the logo?

Have a look at dafont.com or fontsquirrel.com

For a first website attempt, it's okay.

 

Having said that, I'll be completely honest with you and review it comparing it to that of what I consider to be a great website. Forgive me, but your page can use a lot of improvements in terms of design and content. You have a lot of margining, typography, and alignment issues. As a result, the website looks old (for lack of a better term).

 

Starting from the top, the "widget" tab extends beyond it's implied right hand boundary as it almost touches the "is it safe" panel. In my opinion, the text within the tabs are way too big and can be reduced. Doing so would probably allow enough space for the tabs to fit on the main content panel. As a whole, text on almost all panels could use some margins / padding; there's no room to breathe. Furthermore, I also want to bring attention to the fact that "facebook like" and "google +1" are not aligned horizontally.

 

Moving on, content on your page could be arranged in a better way. As a website that generates passwords, the section where you would accomplish this should be something that's visible when the reader first visits your website. Unfortunately, you've positioned the area to do this at the bottom of the webpage and while changing isn't required, I'd highly recommend it.

 

Lastly, I'd recommend that you don't use "mailto" as a means for users to contact you. I understand that this is in fact your first website and the method in which you should go about constructing a proper contact form is a little more advanced, but I still want to warn you against using "mailto".

 

But again, okay for a first website

Hey thanks for the review I sure will work on that, and please if you can mention which browser you were using when you reviewed my site. As I've designed it for IE9 chrome and Firefox. And guess you meant vertical alignment of FB like and G+. Thanks a lot I'm onto it.

Oops. I forgot to mention that the widget issue I was noticing occured on Firefox though this was the only issue that varied across the different browsers. Also, I did in fact mean horizontal alignment. (see attached image).

 

Attached is what I saw when I first went to your website as well as comments as to what I was trying to express. It's a pretty horrible image edit (I'm rushing to try and reach a birthday party on time ) but I think it expresses what I want it to.

 

PS: I realize you've change the website a bit while I've been offline. Nevertheless, this may still be relavent.

I've seen the pic and I was thinking of the alignment as on a graph so it was vertical for me but yep that can be horizontal 2

I would ditch the justify on the widgets. Normally I prefer justification (conterversial(sp?) round these parts ) but only when it works, in this case I would say it does not work.

 

Good effort though

Nicely done and above all very useful for many people.

 

Somebody has allready mentioned about custom fonts and that will keep you busy for hours,

however do remember if you plan to have adverts on the site at a later date then you must use

a font that has been licensed for commercial use.

 

An onsite contact form would be a nice addition and will help keep them spam out of your inbox.

hey James, I too am using Justification so as to margin the text. Any other alternative?

Regarding Contact form, will php mail will be good? Like I don't want to use sql, but I can configure mail function so as to deliver visitors mail to my email account using my own email. Like xyz@me.com sends mail to abc@me.com with all the content and specifying email of the sender? As it wont be showed to them. Also can generate a mail to the sender instantly that we have received your mail.
