June 25, 201214 yr Hello, I'd really appreciate some advice with this please. I have been asked to create icons for Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Linkedin etc that match the style of icons that I created for my client's website. The icons will be used in the emails we send out to our customers. Are you allowed to do this or are there copyright restrictions? I've googled this and youtube and twitter have guidelines but I see stylised versions on websites all the time so I am a bit confused. Thanks!!
June 25, 201214 yr Good question. Before I answer it, I'll put my hands up to not having got around to updating my Twitter icon with their latest guidelines. Essentially: do what you've done - check for guidelines and apply them as sensitively as possible. For example, you may now only use the new Twitter bird rather than the lowercase "t" etc, but if you're doing a monochrome set you might not be able to comply with their colours. Basically, treat other people's brand guidelines as you'd wish yours to be treated.
June 25, 201214 yr Author Thanks for your answer! So, if I wanted to create something a bit more cryptic and designed so it follows our style, for example having an icon of a graphic of a tv to represent You Tube, would this be allowed? Or do I have to use the You Tube logo? Thank you
