I have a flash movie id like to play in a new new window when a link is clicked.

 

I was using some javascript but it wasnt validating.

 

is there any way to do this?

 

I also lookded at lightwindow but that wasnt validating either as it was using params and caption attributes

Why does it have to validate? Good, usable code is better than making a mess just so the W3C validator turns green instead of red.

Dang Dizi, that shadowbox is pretty slick! I'm looking for a standards compliant modal window script for Rawkes and this fits the bill nicely! Now, I might try converting it to jQuery but I should really get on with Rawkes first… It looks like it already has a jQuery plugin!

yup yup yup, it is so far the best of all those types of scripts that I have found...as it says it doesn't use work around to validate, it just validates So it is by far the best to my knowledge to archive the pop up window effect...and its pretty

hmm, is there ayway to set the width & height of the box that opens? I am opening up a HTML file within the window as well.

You must explicitly tell Shadowbox the dimensions to use to display content other than images. This is done by adding a few parameters to the end of the rel attribute, separated by semi-colons. To specify a movie's height and width, use the height and width parameters. Note: These values must always be specified in pixels.

I imagine the same can be said for opening HTML files

having some trouble getting it to work, it just loads up the file in a blank tab. hmm.

At least it opens!

 

Is the url of the file you're trying to open correct?

Can I have a look at the code/page you're using it on, Mark?

hey guys.

 

i think there is an issue with it not working when the file has a .php extension.

 

I have a file index.html and it works when i want to open up a flv file, looks lovely.

 

But when I have the file i.e index.php it doesn't load the flv file. just sits there blank, but the images with shadow box still work. its only the flv.

I had a look and I'm getting an error when I open the "Open close top up cover" saying that "http://www.marksimons.co.uk/peg/flvplayer.swf" cannot be found

Why is it that everything that is said tyo be broken works fine for me...is there something wrong with my computer?

 

If you can't guess by that when I click on the car it pops up in the shadowbox

Rob.. this is ghey! i don't get that! for me the shadowbox opens up but the movie doesnt play.

 

works fine with a.html file extension just not a .php . pulling my hair out over this as i cant get the rest of the site done until this is sorted.

did you test the html version on your computer....while test the php version online? if so have you uploaded the swf to the right place?

Hi Dizi, yeah i tested the php online.

 

its not even working regardless to the file extension now haha!

 

the link 'open/close top up cover' is linked to a file alien.flv in the folder 'gallery'.

 

it should be showing the alien.flv file.

 

the path is correct so it should be showing?

I cannot believe i have spent the whole day on this when the problem has been right under my nose! i guess looking at the screen too much does have an effect!

 

I just took a 2 hour long bike ride, came back and seen the problem (rob helped, i just didn't read his post properly)

 

There needs to be flash player file (flvplayer.swf) in the root directory in order for the video to play.

 

Hands up, im an idiot, line up and punch me please!

The bottom link in the list, it plays a video of an grey haired man opening the boot of the car and showing off the hinges...so what doesn't work about it?

Interesting video actually, must have taken a while to hone that concept. I did a year of product design at University (and have a general interest in it) so things like that are cool

exactly my thoughts, but when you have seen it in excess of 20 times and you cant get something to work you start to curse a lil lol!!!

i love that script. very easy to implement, definitely one the best I've tried out there and it Validates!!! which is one of the main reason I use it.
