So i need to redirect 100s of old links that are already on google to our new site. I FTP the .htaccess file to the site but it didn't work out very well. get a 500 server error

 

The way I have written it out is basically:

I read somewhere that i should put a " at the beginning and end of the url.

 

so it would be: Redirect 301 /s-rated-footwear/ "http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/footwear.html"

and not: Redirect 301 /s-rated-footwear/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/footwear.html

 

by the way the old site is a wordpress site.

Any ideas what i should do? thanks.

The clever thing to do would be to convert the new design to a WordPress theme using the same content, so this sort of problem doesn't occur.

But I echo the above post. It kinda feels like you're taking a step backwards by going to a static website
