May 14, 201214 yr Hello All So i need to redirect 100s of old links that are already on google to our new site. I FTP the .htaccess file to the site but it didn't work out very well. get a 500 server error The way I have written it out is basically: RewriteEngine On Redirect 301 /acrylic-coss-armband-rw19221/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/COSS_Armband_acrylic.html Redirect 301 /fabric-protection-master-arm-band-rw19207/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/armbands_acrylic.html'>http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/armbands_acrylic.html Redirect 301 /about/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/abouts_us.html Redirect 301 /about/corporate-social-responsbility/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/responsibility.html Redirect 301 /about/ethical-code-of-conduct/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/code_conduct.html Redirect 301 /about/our-standards/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/standards.html Redirect 301 /about/the-environment/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/enviroment.html Redirect 301 /about/the-values/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/about_us.html'>http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/about_us.html'>http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/about_us.html Redirect 301 /about/the-vision/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/about_us.html Redirect 301 /about/who-we-are/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/about_us.html Redirect 301 /contact/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/location.html Redirect 301 /contact/apply-for-an-account/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/register.html Redirect 301 /contact/email-subscriptions/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/help.html Redirect 301 /en-standards/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/enstandards.html Redirect 301 /landing-page/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/home.html'>http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/home.html Redirect 301 /our-most-popular-armbands/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/armbands_acrylic.html Redirect 301 /personal-protective-equiptment/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/personal_protection.html Redirect 301 /rail-specific-products-2/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/home.html Redirect 301 /s-rated-footwear/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/footwear.html'>http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/footwear.html I read somewhere that i should put a " at the beginning and end of the url. so it would be: Redirect 301 /s-rated-footwear/ "http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/footwear.html" and not: Redirect 301 /s-rated-footwear/ http://www.spartansafety.co.uk/footwear.html by the way the old site is a wordpress site. Any ideas what i should do? thanks.
May 14, 201214 yr The clever thing to do would be to convert the new design to a WordPress theme using the same content, so this sort of problem doesn't occur.
May 14, 201214 yr Another chance to plug my blog http://www.trand.co.uk/amazingly-simple-301-redirect/ Or use RewriteRule ^oldpage$ http://www.mysite.co.uk/newsubdir/newpage? [R=301,L] But I echo the above post. It kinda feels like you're taking a step backwards by going to a static website
