April 10, 201214 yr Hello. I’ve tried asking the following on the WP forum but no joy... "I’m completely new to WordPress (not downloaded it yet as I'm still deciding on it's suitability for me) and have little HTML/website building experience, and am finding choosing a template hard. When I go to “Free Themes Directory” then “check out our new filter and tag interface” I then get an advanced search feature. Unfortunately I don’t know what most of the “features” mean (so no idea what I want and what I don’t), and I’ve not been able to find a glossary anywhere here. Is there an idiot’s guide to features somewhere please? I’ve searched the forum and found nothing. I got the following answer from a Moderator: “I don't think there's a published glossary of theme tags, no. What tags don't you understand?” to which I replied: “I don’t know what any of them mean. OK, I can guess that “custom-background” means it’s possible to change the background picture, that “custom-colors” means I can change the colours, “custom-header” means I can change the header (don’t know what a header is though!) and “custom-menu” means I can change the menu, but I don’t have a clue about the following: blavatar buddypress editor-style featured-image-header featured-images front-page-post-form full-width-template microformats post-formats rtl-language-support sticky-post theme-options threaded-comments translation-ready Then I have no idea whether it’s a good idea to go for “fixed-width” or “flexible-width”. What exactly is the sidebar too? A glossary of these terms would be really useful :-)” I then got a link to a glossary which explained “microformats” and “sidebar” but none of the others. How the hell am I supposed to be able to choose a template if WP don’t even explain their terminology?! Arrrgh, I despair! Does anyone know of an online guide which answers these questions please? I’ve spent hours Googling already and just want to get cracking on my website. Beth.
