Hi Folks,

I'm in the middle of creating a logo for a company called heat pump maintenance limited, and I would really love to hear your honest opinions on it so far.

I like it! To incorporate the "heat" part, you could have the arrow going from blue to orange? Might be a bit cheesey but just a though!

Hey,

Thanks. I did try a gradient but it looked bad, bit too clip art like.

Visually it looks nice.

I wonder whether the colour blue is appropriate though as blue has connotations of cold/wet and does not say 'heat' to me. Although I have no idea what a heat pump does so maybe it isn't actually something that gets hot! :)

Hi Nublue,

Thanks for your comments.

The water part signifies a few things, firstly water is used in the system. Secondly, the system heats your water supply/central heating by drawing excess heat from either the ground or the air and then heating the water. Thirdly, water has conotations to the Earth and renewable energies, plus the colours work well I think.

The serif font beneath the logotype isn't doing it for me. A tall, condensed sans-serif in all caps would be great there (I'd keep the weight low though). Or maybe a thin/light normal width font?

I'd also make the gap between the arrow head and place it overlaps the tail a bit thicker, at smaller sizes it would blend together and lose it's shape.

Overall though, it's pretty solid!

Hey Porkchops,

Thanks for your comments. Yeah, I think you're right regarding the gap between the arrow and the tail, good spot.

I'm not too sure I agree with the font though but I will certainly give it a try.

Fair enough, but if you're going to mix Serif with Sans-Serif the pairing has to be amazing, and this pairing just isn't working well.

Also, I'd love to see the water droplet in flat color, too. Seems a little overkill with the gradient :)

Yeah, I'll do the water drop in flat colour now when I make the other changes and I'll post them up.

Hi Folks,

Here's the revisions suggested by Porkchops. I like it, what are your thoughts?

I like the change, maybe make 'maintenance' a bit bigger so it spans the full word 'Pump' as before?

Yes, seconded. Line it up with "pump".

In reference to this gradient that didn't work - fair enough, but I feel that there is nothing here to siginify "heat".

In fact I get the oppostie vibe from it - it more signifies "cool" with the current colour combination.

The green arrow signifies environmental which is good. The blue signifies water which is good. Is there any way you could use one of your browns for example or something like that to heat it up a little?

Nice effort though, a well thought out and simple yet effecive logo.

Edit - D'oh! - I notice you did what i was suggesting in your above rework, I apologise, I was half way through making the post then the phone rang, obviously you got your post up before I hit send. Yeah that's the kind of thing I was talking about, try and warm it up somehow.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the comments. I really appreciate them

I've added a poll to the post to get a feel for which logo you guys think is the best.

I like the last one more but the brown is muddy and still doesn't say heat to me. Is red too much? I also feel the E in maintenance should align with the bottom part of the P. You can make Maintenance a little bigger to go underneath the A or T. Last but not least, check your letterspacing. The E and AT is too close and PUMP needs better spacing too.

Hey Stomping,

Thanks for your comments, I agree with the spacing. That's simply the default spacing from the font but you're right.

I do think red would be too much but I can try a warmer orange and see.

Can you vote in the poll so I can get an overall idea of which is the best and then I'll make the changes.

Cheers

Colors are best in the last one, but I feel the "Maintenance" should line up with the beginning of the first stem of the P with the outer edge of the last P stem in PUMP. The last "Maintenance" is a bit weird in my book.

Hey Stomping,

Were you thinking more along these lines?

Heat-Pump-Maintenance-Logo-Version-04.png

I think a variation on the original brown that is just slightly more orange-ey. If you get a few google images of flames, they tend to be blue and orange. If you go for the darkest shade of orange, it's very similar to your brown, I just think the brown is as mentioned before, a little muddy.

I agree with Porkchops, the original brown works better than the red. Just orange it up a bit.

Don't know about everyone else, but that's my fav so far.

You're really getting there with it.

I think you want to fine tune your kerning(tracking?) - for example the spacing between the "E A T" bit of "Heat" looks a bit wide compared to the other letters. I think theoretically it's the same size because of the bottom corner of the "A" but to the eye it looks wider.

Perhaps worth adjusting it from letter to letter etc. so it's all consistent?

I'm liking that last one also. The orange definitely works better than the red. I agree with Gibson on the kerning too. Otherwise, I think it looks great.

Thanks for all the comments guys. It has really helped me refine this logo. Cheers. :)

I'd personally ditch the blue altogether in favour for the orange, you have the water drop which IMO does enough to signify water.

No problem, I hope your client likes it and thanks for the heat pump lesson :)

  • Author

Yeah, already sent the last revision to the client and that's the one he has chosen, so cheers. :)
