February 10, 201214 yr On 3 march I'm going to Germany visiting a friend there (it's around München). I have always wanted to go by car. Now here came the problem. You need Winter Tire there when conditions are met now it's okay but where can I rent it? 4 new winter tires incl montage cost me around €400,- which is a bit to much. After 2-3 weeks I finally found a company or garage, depends how you name it which rent winter tires for €135,- with snow chains as well. [this is for 10 days of use] I asked almost to everyone, mine college's, mine garage and even the branch car garage no'one knew where to rent one. Is it really that hard? Can you rent winter tires in your country easily as well or not? I now have calculated the cost of going by car, plane and train. Car is the cheapest. Edited February 10, 201214 yr by kensha
February 10, 201214 yr I doubt you will be able to rent tyres here in the UK. You may be better off going to Europe and seeing if you can rent or buy in the first port of call. The only people I knew who had winter tyres here were all military who had to travel to Germany at times.
February 10, 201214 yr We looked at renting winter tyres for my girlfriends Vauxhall Corsa this year but it honestly worked out cheaper to buy them. We get very harsh Winter weather where I am in the Scottish mountains so a good Winter tyre is deffinately needed, although not a legal requirement like a lot of places in Europe. Our winter tyres cost us around £160 including fitting but they are now ours. The only cost we will need to pay out will be a once a year cost of £40 (£20 to put them on and £20 to take them off again).
February 10, 201214 yr Author He's in NL. Is it really that hard? Can you rent winter tires in your country easily as well or not? I asked this as well, for small intressting:).
February 10, 201214 yr Is it really that hard? Can you rent winter tires in your country easily as well or not? No it's not hard, you can rent tyres (as I posted above) but it's inordinately expensive and cheaper to buy. In your location and the fact that you're a new driver, I'd purchase some. Is it not a legal requirement where you are?
February 10, 201214 yr Author Netherlands no requirement of snow tires but 4 new snow tires will cost you around 420 euro incl montage. So the rent is much cheaper. €135,-.

Damn man that seems pricey (although I have no idea what the exchange rate is at the moment). I guess it's cheaper here because there is less need for them where as where you are they know more people will have to get them. Also it depends on your car type and wheel size, we were lucky that our ones were relatively cheap.
