Hi,

 

I have worked on a few websites and thinking of starting a website of my own as a way to get more clients and have my portfolio.

Looking for a name, have a few in mind.

I dont want it to sound too professional, should be fun but should be one that can be taken seriously.

Would like to know your opinions on the following names, any suggestions welcome.

tycoondesigns

 

should i add design studio at the end of the name?

Try and make sure you keep at least one of your target keywords in your domain if possible.

 

For example if your going to be optimising for Design Studio then obviously having Design Studio in your domain name is going to be a great help.

 

As I can imagine designs is a lot more competitive than 'design studio', i would recommend a domain including the latter.

Very, very bad idea basing branding on keywords.

 

Keyword-exact domains are great, but I wouldn't have my business called "Affordable web design in Nottingham" because I could rank well for it.

 

Have a business name that you feel comfortable using, and something that represents what you do. A business called "Whacky fun web design" will have totally different connotations than a business called "ultra design".

 

Look for names that you could market and brand. Never, ever base a business based on ranking for ****ty ******* keywords. You'll get more business through word of mouth, and offline marketing than you will through on-line marketing, so you need something that sounds attractive and doesn't put people off.

 

SEO, and exact keyword domains, will come into play once you've established a website, a few clients and want to expand out.

I agree with Jason, go with something that you are proud to stand behind and says something about your brand. On the other hand, I had a re-brand a while back and wanted to be seen as no nonsense and reliable so I brainstormed 2 syllable onomatopoeia's because of the image they create in the mind rather than what the word meant if you see what I'm saying? If I was you I'd brainstorm how you want to be perceived and go from there. (I didn't go with the onomatopoeia in the end, I choose something more relative to my style and ethos)

I am going to be starting up in the new year. In my opinion I am sure it is better to choose your name and then do the marketing. Rather than the other way round.

 

You could call yourself SEXY PORN and get plenty of hits but who is going to hire you for a job with a name like that.
