    If you are using Firefox, there is a add-on that you can download called Firebug. When you preview your site in Firefox this add-on allows you to click on any element, image or piece of text and it gives you all of the styles for that particular component. I use it on every site I build, it is handy for when you have conflicting styles on one element which it sounds like you have.
