Rounded corner icon on a square corner artboard

Featured Replies

Hi there.

I'm very new to web design and adobe products. Now I have done two tutorials on those small rounded corner iphone icons for illustrator. But at the end, when I have finised it, and saved for web, it doesn't quite crop all of the artboard away. I have the orange rounded corner square icone, but in each corner is the white artboard filling out the make the square corners. I have asked in the AI forums about this and there was no response. I then did a video tutorial on making a web header in photoshop. This header wasn't rectangular, it had a curved lower edge. At the end of the tutorial the guy cropped it and the crop was in the encompassing rectangle shape, i.e. once again, there was white residue artboard under the lower edge of the header.

Why is this not a worry to the designers? It's a worry to me because when I embed this icon of mine intot he webpage the white coners show up, instead of me just having the rounder rectangle icon.

Can you get rid of this problem? Or is this something that is worked around another way?

I attached my icon so you can see what I'm talking about.

David.

Thanks for your reply.

That prompted me to go and try and find out how to do what you told me to do.

Then I found something on the internet and it mentioned exporting to photoshop. So I tried that and it put my artwork straight onto a transparent background. Now it's just my artwork without the white square corners on a transparent artboard.

I'm sure that's simple for most people here, but this problem took me hours to find a solution too.

Thanks.

When your inside Illustrator go to File - Save for Web & Devices - PNG and ensure transparency is ticked.

There’s no requirement to export anything to Photoshop to achieve this.
