I have yet another amateur question. I have several photos to be displayed on a website. Which would be the best way to save them to display for web? I will be editing them slightly in photoshop, cropping etc...

For photos go for JPG and use Photoshops 'Save for web...' feature and pic the quality that you feel is the best trade off between file size and picture quality.

u can also upload them on a photo albums like picasa or even on a fake facebook account and give them URL's. Then u upload your URL's and it'll b easy to use, and will also give u incoming links to your site.

This one is the best way and time saving. I usually prefer the same way to do this task. Whenever i have to upload any picture online i prefer to upload the link from picassa or other website if i have the same picture available online.
