Rail Ticket + Free Php Lesson

Featured Replies

How good is this:?

Went to the edge of the known world today (Bristol) to see a friend of mine - had a nice day, went to catch the train back home again, sat down in the only available seat in my carriage and started to read.

As one does, got talking to the chap next to me, who turned out to be studying and teaching web design! He gave me a free php lesson on the train! It's the only time in 14 years I've wished I still lived in Plymouth - would have had an extra hour and a half then :)

(In theory) I can now program a simple calendar app in php (well pleased) :D

That is so cool! It's nice to know there are more nice web developers out there. Your story gave me a warm fuzzy feeling :D

Have you tried coding it yet, though? :p

Don't be silly :D

I'm still working on the mental pathways required to speak to computers using anything other than HTML... It's really helped me to feel less afraid of programming though, he demystified it quite a lot for me. Made me realise I understand more about it than I thought :)

If I get around to programming it, I'll post it for review!

Oh wow!

I'm totally taking my "bulletproof web design" book with me next time I go on a train...

You might want to try something a bit more modest; the volums I carried was 'php & mysql for dummies'!! Let these people pity you first, then teach you :)

Jammy git! I usually fet the weirdos sitting next to me :)

That's probably me

A well placed bag and/or feet on the seat next to you usually sorts that out :p No wonder I don't get any free PHP lessons!

That's also because you don't need any!

You should try vacating the seat next/ opposite to you occasionally; I've had some excellent encounters on the trains. Met a few nutters too, but one takes the rough with the smooth :)

People in London don't talk much on trains, or even lift their heads up, or even look happy for that matter!! :(

Either that or you're the nutter they're all avoiding and you just don't know it :D I think that's why they don't talk to me in London ;)

 It probably is! "Omg, look at that geek in the corner!" *avoids*

Or in my case: "OMG, look at that bumpkin in the corner. What an uncouth example, etc" *laughs, then avoids, in mild fear*

Omg, you weren't on a train in London today were you!?! :o

Certainly not, sir!

Re: the original post in this thread. London is far beyond the edge of the known universe from Somerset

Haha — to be honest if I lived in Somerset I'd avoid London too. Although the atmosphere and attractions in London are amazing.
