Hello,

I was hoping to get some advice regarding this gaming blog theme. I'm not really a web designer, just made this for my own blog. Please vote for the version you think looks better. Any additional advice is welcome as well!

First (what I'm using now):

Fluid header/footer, fixed content area. Content area and main background are white. This is my main worry, that there's too much white and it might be tiring to widescreen monitor owners (I use an ancient 4:3 LCD so it isn't an issue for me). Although I notice that some big sites like PCWorld.com are using "all white" as well.

Second:

Added gray background, played with CSS3 box-shadow and border-radius. Is it an improvement at all?

I fear the header casting shadow on the content area might make the header "pop" more, when in fact it's the content area I want to emphasize.

(I know both designs are rather simple, but that's what I'm aiming for. And fancy stuff is beyond my skills anyway :) )

I'm no professional, but this is just my opinion as a reader.. The second one is much more pleasing for my eyes. Too much white while reading can strain the eyes a bit so it's nice when you restrain your text to one box of white. I know that is the comment I have gotten on my gaming blog, so I am trying to fix all the "white" right now hehe..

Thanks. That's quite helpful, since most of my visitors probably aren't professional designers anyway :)

2nd looks a bit better, but, IMHO, the shadows are too bold.

Thanks. Do these look better?

#666 shadow

#777 shadow

#888 shadow

#999 shadow

Maybe I'll make it a bit lower in width as well.
