Yeah I understand that completely. I was just thinking something along the lines of this Hand Written Nav'. Check out this article on Smashing Magazine though, its a pretty good read

Looks great! Just a little thing, I have a 27" iMac, and the background image looks out of place due to being able to see the harsh edges against the background. I would suggest it maybe blends into the background colour for a smoother transition? I know it probably only affects a small population, but I thought I would let you know.

Hey there, welcome to the forums . I'd personally drop the navigation and go for something in a little more hand-drawn approach to match your red graffiti on your images. Try it out anyway, I'm thinking something in this sort of style -Hand-Drawn Style Buttons but obviously you would need to change it to navigation

I feel the purple navigation icons are hard on the eye, it seems simple and funky, white space isn't bad space it's possible future usable space.

I really like that!
 
Just sort out the edges on the controller logo thing and that would be awesome

Great job!!! Blogger is normally quiet difficult to mod but that looks ace!

My suggestion is keep the background with plain color or some other images...

I'm no professional, but this is just my opinion as a reader.. The second one is much more pleasing for my eyes. Too much white while reading can strain the eyes a bit so it's nice when you restrain your text to one box of white. I know that is the comment I have gotten on my gaming blog, so I am trying to fix all the "white" right now hehe..
